Tournament Legality of Recent Releases at 2015 WizKids World Championship Events

Screen Shot 2015-01-29 at 12.42.34 PM

Dear WizKids Games players,
As per our normal tournament legality rules, game elements must be available to players for one full week prior to being tournament legal.  As such, certain game elements that release at the end of May/early June will not be legal for tournament play at the 2015 WizKids World Championship events held at Origins Game Fair June 3-7.

Please note the following:

  • This is counted from the street date or event start date (for OP material)— i.e. the first time players would have access to the game elements— and not from the ship date— i.e. the first date stores will be receiving the product.

The game elements included in the following releases/OP kits WILL NOT be legal for the 2015 WizKids World Championship events held at Origins Game Fair June 3-7:

HEROCLIX—

  • Marvel HeroClix: Age of Ultron Event 1 OP Kit
  • Marvel HeroClix: Age of Ultron Storyline Organized Play Tournament Boosters

Please note the following:

  • The Avengers ID Cards released in the Marvel HeroClix: Avengers Assemble set and the promo ID Cards that were available at Nationals events (Ares, Shang Chi and Daredevil) will be legal for tournament play.

DICE MASTERS—

  • DC Dice Masters: Trinity War OP Kit 2
  • Marvel Dice Masters: Monthly OP Avengers Disassembled
  • D&D Dice Masters: Monthly OP Kit 1

D&D ATTACK WING—

  • D&D Attack Wing Tyranny of Dragons OP Kit 6
  • D&D Attack Wing Wave 7
  • D&D Attack Wing Premium Tiamat Figure
  • D&D Attack Wing Premium Silver Dragon Figure

STAR TREK: ATTACK WING—

  • Star Trek: Attack Wing The Q-Continuum OP Kit 2
  • Star Trek: Attack Wing Wave 15

Thank you,
– The WizKids Team

Important WizKids Event System Announcement!

WES logo

The WES is dead. Long live the new WES!

As noted in one of Justin Ziran’s recent open letters, we have been hard at work on a ground-up rebuild of the WizKids Event System (the “WES”) and the WizKids Product Replacement System (the “WRS”). We are excited to announce that we are rolling out the initial release of the new WES and WRS on Monday, June 9th, 2014. As part of this release we have ported over the data for all stores, events, and players from the old systems as well as the store locator to make for as smooth a transition as possible. As such you should be able to log in with your current credentials on Monday. Please note: We will be taking the old WES down for maintenance on Monday morning to start the transition. We’re hoping to have the new WES back up in the afternoon. We apologize for the inconvenience.

So What’s New?

For now, the new WES and WRS aim to replicate the same functionality of the old systems in a more intuitive and efficient manner. The goal is to make these systems easier to use and speed up your interaction with the system. The WES, in particular, will include some great new refinements and makes it easier to find events and stores, and for store owners and volunteers to report their events.

As a Player, in addition to the features from the old system, you now will be able to…

  • Follow your favorite stores to keep up to date with them
  • Select an option to be notified when your favorite stores host a new event
  • Select an option to receive reminders about upcoming events for which the player has registered
  • Find players by email or last name and look at their player profile (based on their privacy settings)
  • Adjust privacy settings for your profile information to control what you share with other users

As a Store, in addition to the features from the old system, you now will be able to…

  • Select an option to be notified when a new player “follows” or “likes” your store
  • Select an option to be notified when a new player registers for an event at your store
  • We have prepared tutorials for all the major portions of the site, to show how the new sites handles the features from the old systems.

What’s next?

The new WES and WRS are going to serve as foundations for some exciting new features coming soon. Here are some examples of some great new features for the WES.

Soon Players will…

  • be able to earn achievements based on participating in and winning events, volunteering for venues, and more
  • be ranked on a leaderboard based on their win/loss record and points earned from their achievements
  • have a gamer-tag with a player avatar and extended profile that will show achievements and leaderboard rank
  • be able to form teams with other players and compete in team based rankings
  • be able to follow other players and receive notifications when they participate in or win an event
  • send messages to other players (based on their privacy settings)

Soon Stores will…

  • be able to earn achievements based on hosting and reporting events and growing their player base
  • have a store profile that will show their achievements, images, and more
  • be able to upload images of their store and past hosted events to their store profile
  • send messages to volunteers and players that are following the store (based on their privacy settings)

What if something goes wrong?

As with any new system rollout, we can’t guarantee that there wont be some minor glitches. We are doing our best to ensure this doesn’t happen. Moreover, we are making sure that the database for the old system will remain intact, to avoid any data loss. If you encounter any trouble with the WES or the WRS, please send an email to support@mfv.com and we’ll do our best to resolve the issue in a timely fashion.

Thank you as always for your continued interest and support.  Please join us Monday as we usher in an all-new era for the WES and WRS!

Important WizKids Event System Update! Report Your Events Now!

Greetings Retailers and HeroClix Enthusiasts!

As we enter the third month of the Infinity Gauntlet Organized Play events, we are happy to report that this exciting tournament series continues to take the worldwide HeroClix scene by storm! Many of you continue to use the WizKids Event System to  schedule your Infinity Gauntlet events using the pre-generated templates, and we want to take a moment to remind you that all Infinity Gauntlet event templates have been fully uploaded into  the WES.

One question we’ve received from stores and players alike is “When will WizKids activate Event Reporting?” Well, we’re pleased to say that time is now! Ready to see the system in action? Let’s start with a pic of the Store Event Home page (click on image to enlarge):

Find the event you wish to run and report in your store’s Event list and select it by clicking on it (it’s important to note that sometimes you may have to select view “Past Events” on the dropdown menu if the event you want to report has already occurred).  This will bring you to a screen that looks like this  (click on image to enlarge):

One nw thing you’ll notice is the inclusion of a “Report Event” button on this screen, but before we get to that let’s add our players to the event using the “Add Player” button first (found by the Event Participants list).

When we click on the “Add Player” button, we re brought to this screen (click on image to enlarge):

On this screen we can search for players in the WizKids Event System database (as seen above).  Here we’ve entered part of the user name and found him.  We can now click on “Add to Event” to sign that player up.  If the participant is a new player and hasn’t registered in the WizKids Event System, you can register that player yourself! Simply fill in the new player’s information as you see here (click on image to enlarge):

Once you’ve filled in the player’s information, click on the “Create” button.  A username will be automatically generated (or it can be created now).  IMPORTANT: In order to set the password for this new account, the username and email address will be needed.  Repeat these steps as necessary until you have all of the participating players listed (like the screen below – click on image below to enlarge):

Occassionally you may have players listed that did not attend the event (they may have registered but failed to show for example).  Any players that are not present should be removed from the event by clicking the X next to their name. Once your player list is correct, click the “Report Event” button.  Once you do so you will be brought to this screen (click on image to enlarge):

Now click on the red button entitled “Seat Swiss” and your players will automatically be paired for you! (click on image below to enlarge)

After clicking on the “Seat Swiss” button, you’ll notice that one player was given the Bye, and everyone else was randomly seated with opponents.  Now play for Round One can begin!

As events complete, enter the score in the appropriate text box (click on image below to enlarge):

Notice that the check box to the left of the winner is automatically checked (but it can be overridden if necessary as there are some HeroClix scenarios where the person with less points actually wins the match). Once all scores are entered (including any for the Bye player), click the >> button to go to the next round.

PLEASE NOTE: The Save button can be clicked at any time so that this information is not lost.  If you close this window without saving, your information will be lost. By clicking save, you send the information to the database and it will still be there (on a different browser, a different machine, etc.) if you should close the window and/or return to finish at a later time.

Now, before we seat Round Two, let’s say our player, Klauss, has dropped himself from the event. We change the “Send Player To” button to “Drop” and then click on Klaus (click on image below to enlarge):

Once you drop Klaus from the event, we can now see him in the Dropped area (click on image below to enlarge):

Now that we’re ready to begin Round Two, let’s click on the “Set Swiss” button again and pair our players! (click on image below to enlarge)

Please note that as we enter Round Two of your event, we can see the current player standings to the right of the screen.  We continue this process for each round of your tournament and until we have a clear winner  (click on image below to enlarge):

After playing 3 rounds, we have a clear winner. Now it’s time to click the “Finalize” button (click on image below to enlarge):

On the Finalization screen, one can review all of the previous rounds to make sure the games player were reported correctly. If something is wrong, simply click on the round number to go to that round, make the correction, and then click “Finalize” to return to this screen to review again.

  • Note that the winner of the event displays as read only. If an event has 2 players with the same “best” record, this will be a drop down list that will allow the judge to indicate who the winner was (among players with the best record).
  • Fellowship is available to any player that is not the winner of the event.
  • Once fellowship has been selected, click “Finalize”, and you’re done!

After events have been reported, you can see the results on the event screen (click on image below to enlarge):

Now your event has been completed and reported! Repeat this process for all of your events for easy tournament management, and continue to register your events to ensure maximum player attendance at your events!

Thank you everyone for your continued support of WizKids Games and HeroClix.   The Infinity Gauntlet has been an incredible way to start  the year and it’s not over yet! Schedule your events and fight it out for the greatest prize in the Marvel Universe!

Important Infinity Gauntlet Organized Play Series Update!

Greetings Retailers and HeroClix Enthusiasts!

As you read this we are making an important update to the Infinity Gauntlet OP series that affects everyone!

When we first envisioned the Infinity Gauntlet event series, we expected that offering the kits at the beginning of their respective months was the best way to proceed in order to ensure an even footing for all.  However, what sometimes looks good on paper leaves a little to be desired when actually executed.  Essential feedback from you, our retailers and players, has demonstrated a clear need for us to re-evaluate the Infinity Gauntlet prize kits’ shipping schedules.

With that in mind, we are very happy to announce that Infinity Gauntlet prize kits will now be shipping the last week of each month, for events scheduled the following month! Starting this month, April’s Infinity Gauntlet’s OP kits will begin shipping to stores on March 28th, 2012.  Now stores will be able to schedule their Infinity Gauntlet events anytime during the repsective month and feel confident that they will have the necessary elements for their tournaments!

The new Infinity Gauntlet OP kit shipping schedule is as follows:

IG OP Kit 4 – April 2012 Kit: Releases 28 March 2012

IG OP Kit 5 – May 2012 Kit: Releases 25 April 2012

IG OP Kit 6 – June 2012 Kit: Releases 30 May 2012

IG OP Kit 7 – July 2012 Kit: Releases 27 June 2012

IG OP Kit 8 – August 2012 Kit: Releases 25 July 2012

As always, thank you to all of our stores and players for your continued support, dedication, and feedback.

The New Event Management and You

Greetings Retailers and HeroClix Enthusiasts!

With the recent launch of the new WizKids Event System and Player Registration, the time has come to delve a little deeper into both Event and Volunteer management.  Let’s start with Volunteer management.

In our last article, we left off with how a player could register and submit themselves as a Volunteer for their Venue.  Once a player has applied to be a volunteer for their Venue, it is up to the Venue to accept or reject them.  The next time the Venue logs in and looks at their Home page, they will see something like this:

As you can see, on the right-hand side of the screen there is an indication that a player has applied to help out as a volunteer.   There is also a drop down menu for the Venue to click on which will display the following results:

While these are fairly self-explanatory, we suggest selecting “Active” if you would like to accept the player as a volunteer for your Venue.  Click on “Update Volunteers” and you’re ready to go!

Congratulations! Your Venue now has a volunteer.  Now every time you create and schedule an event, any selected volunteers will be automatically added to that event:

Both Volunteers and Venues can create and schedule events.  Editing events is as simple as clicking on the event in question, and then the field within the event that you wish to change.

Once your event is ready to go, be sure to click on “Update Event” in the lower left-hand corner.  Now players can register and add themselves to your event!

Now you’re ready to go! Schedule your events, or have a volunteer schedule them for you and now players in your area will be able to search and add themselves, or you can add them when you report the event! As always, should you have any questions please feel free to e-mail us at HeroClixDeveloper@gmail.com.

The New Player Registration and You

Greetings WizKids Events Enthusiasts!

In a recent article we detailed how to set up events in the all-new WizKids Event System.  The inevitble question arose “When can players register in the new system?” The answer is now!

(We should note however that if you have utilized the Product Replacement system, you are already registered with that information in the Event System as well, so there’s no need to create another UserID.)

Step One: Go to HeroClix.com/Tournaments

(click on image below to enlarge)

When you arrive at the above webpage, you will be prompted to login.  However, we’re not there yet! Just below the login prompt, there is a button labelled “Create New Player Account”.  Click on that button and you’re on your way!

Step Two: Provide Your Information

(click on image below to enlarge)

On this page, you will fill out all of the information required to register your player account.  Be doubly sure that you enter everything correctly (e-mail, phone number, etc…) as this will be the means by which WizKids will contact and confirm your information!

When you’ve finished entering your information and double-checked it all, click the “Create Account” button on the right-hand side of the page.

Step Three: Activating Your Account

(click on image below to enlarge)

Once you’ve completed entering your information you will receive an e-mail with an activation code.  Return to HeroClix.com/Tournaments and log in using the Username provided and the password you selected as well as the confirmtion code provided, and activate your account!

Once you’ve entered this information and logged in, you’re good to go.  Congratulations!

Lastly, if you encounter any difficulties or have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at HeroClixDeveloper@gmail.com.

Finding an Event

At the top of your page you should see three tabs, “Home”, “Search”, and “Settings”.  Select “Search” and you will see this webpage:

Enter the parameters of your search using the dropdown menus and spaces provided.  Hit the “Search” button and off you go! Your search results will look like this:

I Want to Help My Local Venue, How Do I Volunteer?

With the new Event System in place, Venues are fully enabled to run events without difficulty.  However, if you’d like to offer your support and a helping hand there is a way to volunteer!

Search for the Venue you’d like to volunteer at using the method above.  Once you’ve found the Venue you’re looking for, select it by clicking on its name.  Doing so will bring you to this page:

In the lower right-hand of the page, you will see if the Venue has already accepted volunteers, as well as a button you can use to submit yourself as a volunteer candidate for the Venue.  Once you’ve done so, you will be brought to this webpage:

That’s all we have for now, but in our next article we dive deeper into Event Creation and Volunteer management.  Be sure to join us then and as always, thank you all for your continued interest and support!

The Infinity Gauntlet, WizKids Event System, and Beyond!

Greetings Retailers and WizKids Events Enthusiasts!

There has been a lot of buzz lately regarding our larger plans for events in 2012, not least of which our plans for the Infinity Gauntlet Organized Play series.  We’re hoping that by offering a broad overview (a “roadmap” if you will) that we can clear up some of the confusion had on these topics.

Venue Registration!

First of all, the deadline for registering your Venue in the WizKids Event system has been extended to Wednesday, November 30th, 2011.  We first made mention of this in an article back on October 28th, 2011 but we can understand how that may have gotten lost in the shuffle (TGIF!).

So you still have just over two weeks to make certain your Venue is registered.  As always, any questions, comments, or concerns you may have can be directed to HeroClixDeveloper@gmail.com.  For all of those who have already registered, thanks! You should be receiving confirmation that Event creation/registration has been opened soon! (More on this as we proceed)

Venue registration will be your doorway to ever increasing visibility as events you register will show up on our website as players search for more and more opportunities to play HeroClix! Venue registration is also an essential component for running the Infinity Gauntlet Organized Play series!  The WizKids Event System is your key to ever-increasing success in the HeroClix arena and will prove to be a valuable tool in your arsenal!

The Infinity Gauntlet!

We kick off our Tenth Anniversary in 2012 with a BANG! The Infinity Gauntlet is an “arcing” Organized Play (OP) series that spans eight (8!) months beginning in January 2012 and concluding with a titanic event in August of 2012.  Players will compete for prizes exclusive to this special OP series while attempting to assemble the fabled (and very powerful in-game) Infinity Gauntlet itself! With a plethora of never-before-offered participation prizes and incredible competitive prizes the Infinity Gauntlet will be the “It” event for more than the first half of the Tenth Anniversary.  For event-by-event details, please be sure to check our Infinity Gauntlet resource page!

Please note that Venues interested in participating in the Infinity Gauntlet events must purchase at least 4 cases of product from each of these three Marvel HeroClix expansions: The Incredible Hulk, Galactic Guardians, and The Mighty Avengers.  A minimum purchase of 4 cases of each unlocks access to purchase the following monthly Organized Play kits for Infinity Gauntlet:

  • Four (4) Cases of The Incredible Hulk unlocks Infinity Gauntlet months One and Two for purchase
  • Four (4) Cases of Galactic Guardians unlocks Infinity Gauntlet months Three, Four and Five for purchase
  • Four (4) Cases of The Mighty Avengers unlocks Infinity Gauntlet months Six, Seven and Eight for purchase

Of particular interest to note is that these case purchases will also qualify your Venue to purchase the standard OP kits for each of the expansions.  For example, purchasing four cases of The Incredible Hulk for Infinity Gauntlet months One and Two also qualifies you to purchase the Incredible Hulk OP kit (available with a minimum of two cases)! No matter how you calculate your product needs, be sure to order plenty for both your standard sales, regular OP offerings and the Infinity Gauntlet OP series! This is going to be big big BIG!!!

The WizKids Event System:

The WizKids Event System will be offering increasing functionality over the coming weeks. Once you’ve registered your Venue we will follow up shortly informing you that we’ve turned on Event creation for your Venue.  Look to another article soon on all of the details and steps on how that process will work for you.

Shortly after that, we will turn onthe Player Registration feature so that you can begin getting your players registered in the system.  This will be important when time comes to finally report your events within the system.

And shortly after that, we have some really cool features to open up for everyone, but this is all a lot to take in so we’re taking HeroClix-sized steps to ensure everyone’s on the same page first!  More on this as it develops!

Both Event creation and Player Registration will be activated before the end of 2011 so you will all have plenty of practice time to get familiar  with the WizKids Event System.  We’re confident that you are all going to love the new system but as always, any questions should be directed to HeroClixDeveloper@gmail.com.

Thanks as always for your continued and dedicated support.  Stay tuned as even more news will be forthcoming soon!!!
