Marvel HeroClix: Holiday Theme Teams

Greetings HeroClix fans,

Today we have another holiday themed HeroClix article for you! What colors best represent the holidays? All those holly berries and Christmas trees all over the place – why, red and green of course! And what better way to really usher in the spirit of the season, than by having teams themed around those two colors fight it out in a winner take all, no holds barred match between Team Red and Team Green from the Marvel Universe!

Marvel HeroClix: Karnak

The key to a balanced team (and a balanced Holiday experience, of course) is to make sure you’re as prepared for every situation as you possibly can, and Team Green does this by bringing some holiday might to the party! Up first for the Green Team is the Inhuman that can find any weakness – we’re talking Karnak from the Marvel HeroClix: Guardians of the Galaxy Fast Forces Pack! A fighter who can systematically pick apart your opponents via his use of Charge, Flurry, Precision Strike, Close Combat Expert, and Exploit Weakness, Karnak is the perfect up close fighter for you to really bring some Holiday Punch to the fight!

Marvel HeroClix: Avengers Assemble- Whirlwind

Next for the green team we have Whirlwind, from the Marvel HeroClix: Avengers Assemble set. Another up close fighter, where Whirlwind shines is his use of Blades/Claws/Fangs, as well as the Flight ability! He’ll be able to carry Karnak into or out of battle, and he’s got some staying power with Toughness, Combat Reflexes, and Super Senses. On paper, his damage isn’t anything to write home about, but the inclusion of Close Combat Expert to go along with Blades/Claws/Fangs means that on each click there’s at least a chance Whirlwind will be breaking damage barriers!

Marvel HeroClix: Loki

And finally for Team Green is the Norse God of Mischief and Lies, Loki, the 2015 Convention Exclusive, in his Agent of Asgard persona. The clean-up hitter for your team, Loki brings the Mystics team ability, a range of 7 squares with two targets, as well as Improved Movement: Ignores Elevated Terrain and Hindering Terrain. With those powers, Loki also possesses Mind Control, Incapacitate, Probability Control, and Perplex, along with a great trait and two special powers. His trait, Tricky Trickster, grants Loki the ability to use Shape Change and Sidestep, and also prevents lines of fire being drawn to him by characters 150 points or less, if Loki has 1 or fewer action tokens, unless that character has the Asgardian, Deity, or Mystical keywords.

Marvel HeroClix: Avengers- Age of Ultron- Scarlet Witch

Of course, against the Green Team must come the Red Team! Up first for the Red Squad is the Scarlet Witch, from the Marvel HeroClix: Avengers- Age of Ultron movie set. An absolute steal at 55 points, Wanda has some fantastic standard powers in Stealth, Mind Control, Perplex, and Probability Control, as well as a trait that has the potential to be game changing. The trait, Uncaging the Beast, allows you to give Scarlet Witch a free action when she has two action tokens, letting you choose a friendly character within her range and in line of fire. The character’s combat values are modified by +1 until the end of the turn. Unfortunately, if you do this, you have to deal Scarlet Witch one unavoidable damage, and you will be unable to clear her action tokens.

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Spider-Woman

Our second member of Team Red is from the recent Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. set, and is the quintessential double agent – Spider-Woman! In possession of a special power called Web Gliders which allows her to use both Leap/Climb and Sidestep. In addition to that, once per turn, when she is given a move action and moves 4 squares or less, after that move action resolves, she can make a close or ranged combat attack as a free action! In addition to that, she also has the standard powers Flurry, Precision Strike, Super Strength, and Outwit, amongst others. Not to be overlooked is her trait, Revealing All the Secrets, which allows her to choose a copyable team ability that an opposing character within range and line of fire can use. Until your next turn, Spider-Woman can use this team ability, and that character cannot – in the situation we have here, she could truly tip the scales by copying Loki’s Mystics team ability!

Marvel HeroClix: Deadpool

Finally, no Red Team is complete without the Merc with a Mouth, the one and only, Deadpool! The star of last years self-titled release, the version of ‘Pool that we’ll be utilizing for our Red Team is from the counter top display. This version of Deadpool is abundant in color on his dial, without a special power to be seen, but the amount of chaos that he has with his standard powers is quintessential Deadpool. Bringing Sidestep, Phasing/Teleport, Energy Explosion, Blades/Claws/Fangs, Ranged Combat Expert, Regeneration, and Probability Control amongst others, you’re never hurting for options when Deadpool is in the fight. Of course, with that, you can also give Deadpool a free action to attach any of the numerous Word Balloon objects to his base, giving him yet more versatility. And then, of course, is his fourth wall-breaking trait, I Like My Trait In Web of Spider-Man Better. This trait allows you to roll a D6 at the start of your turn, and on a roll of 1-3, you heal Deadpool one click of damage. On a 4-6, remove an action token from either Deadpool or an adjacent friendly character that shares a keyword with him, and has a lower point value.

That’s it for today, ‘Clix fans! We hope you’ve enjoyed this lighthearted look at the holidays through some fun pieces from the Modern Age Marvel HeroClix Universe. Until next time, Happiest of Holidays, and we’ll see you soon!
