DC HeroClix TabApp: DC Super Heroes are Here!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today, we take a closer look at the latest additions to the HeroClix TabApp familyHeroClix TabApp is a real-time super hero adventure game intended for ages 8 and up.  The big bonus is that each HeroClix TabApp figure is 100% compatible with the HeroClix game engine and comes with its own character card, and today we begin our in-depth look at the figures that comprise our first of two DC HeroClix TabApp sets with the DC Super Heroes TabApp pack.

The first figure in the set is the Man of Steel himself,  Superman, playable at either 250 or 150 points.  Superman begins play getting himself into position to use his Running Shot with a printed 7 range, and the Indomitable combat ability will allow him to act again next turn with no fear of pushing damage.   Retaliating against the Superman will be a challenge as he has an opening 19 defense with Impervious to protect him.    His second click sees him switch tactics as he now has Charge to go after any foe that attempts to escape him, and Exploit Weakness will ensure that the damage sticks.  A little further into his dial, Superman again switches tactics as he now has Hypersonic Speed to utilize his entire movement to make a close or range attack.    In this stretch, Superman changes his damage reducer to Invulnerable.

Mid-dial is where Superman’s 150 point start line is located.  He begins play (or continues on) with Hypersonic Speed, and still has a few clicks of Invulnerable to protect himself.   After this is again the effective combination of Charge and Exploit Weakness.   His next click will see the return of Running Shot, and Superman will trade damage reducers again, this time for a few clicks of Toughness.

At the end of his dial, Superman his ability to pummel an opponent as Flurry will be on the rest of his dial.  Toughness will continue to protect Superman as his defensive values climb back to the values at the front of his dial.  On his last click, Superman can bet on his ability to damage an adjacent figure in close combat as Exploit Weakness is paired with Flurry, while being protected by his printed 19 defense, or, try to get a good roll on his Regeneration.

Superman also possesses a trait called Strength from the Yellow Sun, which allows him to use Super Strength.  This trait goes on to say that when he uses an object in an attack, the damage is reduced by 1, and after the action resolves, the target is dealt 1 unavoidable damage.   Superman has the Justice League and Superman Ally team abilities, and can fit on many theme teams with the Justice League, Kryptonian, Metropolis, Reporter and Trinity keywords.  Or, you can download HeroClix TabApp and play the solo game for some real-time heroic action!

Next up in the DC Super Heroes  DC HeroClix TabApp set is the Caped Crusader, Batman!

Like Superman, Batman can be played at two point levels, in this case either 75 or 100 points.  First, Batman has an Improved Movement ability that allows him to ignore hindering terrain for movement purposes called Familiar Terrain.  Batman also has a trait called Hiding in the Shadows that allows a square he occupies to be considered hindering terrain for line of fire purposes if he is adjacent to a wall, blocking terrain or a square of higher elevated terrain.  This pairs very nicely with his Batman Ally team ability, and he also has the Justice League team ability.

Batman begins play with a special power on his opening clicks that lets him take the fight right to an opposing figure or two called Earth’s Greatest Fighter, which allows him to use both Charge and Flurry.  Toughness will allow him to reduce damage these clicks.  Batman has Perplex on his first click, to allow the modification of a combat value to best help himself or his team, followed by a click of Outwit to allow his to deprive an opposing figure of a key power.

Midway into Batman’s dial is his 75 point starting line.   At this point, Batman Incapacitate, which can be used with his printed 5 range, or in close combat, where he will be more challenging to hit due to his string of Combat Reflexes.  Outwit will again allow him to remove a power from an opposing figure.  His next click will again give him his Earth’s Greatest Fighter special power for a couple of clicks.  These clicks have Perplex, and then Incapacitate on them.   On his last click, Batman again has Toughness to protect him, and Outwit to be a help to the rest of your force.

Batman can easily fit onto many theme teams with the Batman Family, Justice League, Martial Artist and Trinity keywords, or can go on a solo adventure in the HeroClix TabApp game.

Last, and certainly not least, is the Warrior Princess of the Amazons, Wonder Woman!

Playable at either 75 or 150 points, Wonder Woman has a trait called Amazonian Princess that allows her to use Leadership, with the added effect that if she rolls a 6, she may remove an action token from herself or an adjacent character with the Amazon or Trinity keyword.

Wonder Woman begins play with the always potent combination of Charge and Super Strength, while she is protected from harm with Invulnerable.   The Indomitable combat ability will allow her to act without fear of pushing damage.  This combination of powers will pretty much cover the first three clicks of Wonder Woman’s dial, until she trades Charge for Plasticity and Exploit Weakness.

Mid-dial is Wonder Woman’s 75 point starting line, which looks familiar with two clicks of Charge followed by a click of Plasticity.  Defensively, Wonder Woman gains a special power called Indestructible Bracelets, which allows her to use Energy Shield Deflection, Super Senses and Toughness.   This stretch of her dial also begins with Exploit Weakness, and then a couple of clicks of Close Combat Expert.  The end of Wonder Woman’s dial sees her again able to deal penetrating damage with closing clicks of Exploit Weakness, or she can choose to try to regain health with Regeneration.

As with all the figures in this pack, Wonder Woman can be used to undertake her own adventure with the HeroClx TabApp download, or team up on you HeroClix force with the Amazon, Justice League, Trinity or Warrior keywords.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this first look at the HeroClix TabApp and combat dials for the DC Superheroes HeroClix TabApp packHeroClix TabApp packs will be available at Toys ‘R Us, Wal Mart,  and your friendly local game and comic stores, and you can get the HeroClix TabApp app FOR FREE  in the iTunes App Store!

Marvel HeroClix TabApp: Wolverine and the X-Men!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Since we first announced the existence of HeroClix TabApp, there’s been a great deal of speculation and questions.  “What is HeroClix TabApp?” folk have been asking.  Well, if you were fortunate enough to attend Gen Con Indy 2012, you may have taken the opportunity to examine and play this innovative and fun offering from WizKids Games/NECA; a real-time super hero application aimed at a younger audience for the iPad (and soon for the Android platform as well!).  Utilizing HeroClix powers and abilities based upon HeroClix and physical figures to unlock content, HeroClix TabApp bridges the tabletop and digital HeroClix experience!

Check it Out

HeroClix TabApp provides a fast, fun solo play experience based upon the widely popular HeroClix game engine.  HeroClix TabApp demonstrates the most basic HeroClix game concepts to younger players and over time, these new players will eventually unlock the full depth and glory of the full HeroClix platform through continued play and exposure to the larger HeroClix world through our website.

To begin play with HeroClix TabApp, simply download the app from the iTunes App Store and place your figure on it’s corresponding graphic on the screen.  The contact points on the bottom of the HeroClix TabApp base relay to the game which figure you are using and begins play in a character-specific storyline and game.  Cut scenes introduce each level, and when you’re ready enemies begin swarming in to defeat you! Simply touch the enemies on the screen you wish to attack, unlock power-ups with a swipe, and unleash special attacks (like Thor’s lightning below) all with the tip of your fingers! (click on image below to enlarge)

HeroClix TabApp is a real-time super hero adventure game intended for ages 8 and up.  The big bonus is that each HeroClix TabApp figure is 100% compatible with the HeroClix game engine and comes with its own character card, and today we continue our in-depth look at the figures that comprise our first two Marvel HeroClix TabApp sets with the Wolverine and the X-Men pack.

As deadly as his namesake suggests, Wolverine leaps into the fray with the aptly-named Charge power, maneuvering into position to best put his trademark Adamantium claws (represented by Exploit Weakness) to use! After his initial click Wolverine tears into his enemies with Blades/Claws/Fangs and Flurry while Battle Fury protects him from Mind Control as well as enables him to ignore Shape Change on his targets and Incapacitate!

A full dial of Toughness thanks to his Hard to Take Down Trait combined with Willpower on his opening clicks allows you to move Wolverine right into the thick of the fight with little fear.  And should Wolverine take a few hits, his mid- and end-dial Keep Comin’ At Ya special power stops your from turning the dial further when that power is revealed, and allows you to use Regeneration!

And if Keep Comin’ At Ya doesn’t provide enough healing, pair Wolverine up with another figure with the X-Men team ability and swap a click of health!

At 100 points, Wolverine is a durable pint-sized terror on the battlefield, and the Avengers, Weapon X, X-Force, and X-Men keywords will make for easy team building,  or download HeroClix TabApp and play the Wolverine in the solo game for some real-time heroic action!

Next we take a closer look at long-time X-Men leader, Cyclops!

The quintessential leader of the X-Men, Cyclops is ready to take the fight to the opposing figures! CyclopsConcussive Blasts Trait allows him to use Force Blast as a free action and if that weren’t enough, all of his ranged attack damage deals knockback as well! Combined with his 8 range value and the Sharpshooter ability, Cyclops is very effective with ranged attacks against his enemies!

Early- to mid-dial Running Shot allows Cyclops to get where he’ll do the most good while targeting opposing figures with ranged combat attacks.  Willpower ensures Cyclops won’t take pushing damage as he presses the attack and an initial click of Leadership gives you the opportunity to gain an extra action as well as remove a token from a friendly, adjacent figure!

Perplex replaces Leadership on Cyclops‘ second click, while mid-dial Cyclops deals penetrating damage thanks to Penetrating/Psychic Blast.  Late-dial Energy Shield/Deflection represents Cyclops‘ ability to calculate trajectory and (hopefully) avoid ranged combat attacks himself!

A single penultimate click of Ranged Combat Expert demonstrates Cyclops‘ intense optic blasts while a final click of Pulse Wave represents unleashing the full omni-directional power of his optic energies!

Like many X-Men HeroClix figures, Cyclops is additionally armed with the X-Men team ability allowing for battlefield healing, and the X-Factor and X-Men keywords allow for easy team-building.  At 105 points, Cyclops is an eXcellent second tier ranged attacker and Leadership piece!

Rounding out the Wolverine and the X-Men HeroClix TabApp pack is none other than the incomparable Iceman!

Iceman skates into battle atop his signature Ice Slides (Running Shot) and freezes the opposition in their tracks thanks to his Frozen in Place special power.  Frozen in Place allows Iceman to place a token on any figure that took damage from his attack if it did not already have an action token, sort of a situational Incapacitate power that kicks in once Iceman has also successfully damaged his target.

Early-dial Iceman enjoys protection from both Toughness and Shape Change as he utilizes his ice powers to confuse his enemies and absorb punishment from their attacks.  Mid-dial Iceman takes a more aggressive stance and erects Ice Shields thanks to the Barrier power in an effort to protect his teammates, stymy his foes, or both!

Late-dial Iceman demonstrates his slippery disposition as he gains Plasticity while Poison represents the incredible cold he can generate in close proximity.  A final click of Regeneration allows Iceman to stay in the fight and the X-Men team ability gives Iceman an even greater chance to heal as well!

At 95 points Iceman is a great tactical addition to your force as both a secondary attacker and map-control piece.  Combined with the other HeroClix TabApp figures in the Wolverine and the X-Men pack Iceman compliments an easy 300 point team build, and his Champions, Defenders, X-Factor, and X-Men keywords means he will play nicely with the rest of your HeroClix collection as well!

We hope you’ve enjoyed this first look at the HeroClix TabApp and combat dials for the Wolverine and the X-Men HeroClix TabApp pack! HeroClix TabApp packs will be available at Toys ‘R Us, Wal Mart, you friendly local game and comic stores later this month, and you can get the HeroClix TabApp app FOR FREE  in the iTunes App Store!

The big bonus is that each HeroClix TabApp figure is 100% compatible with the HeroClix game engine and comes with its own character card, and today we take our first in-depth look at the figures that comprise our first two Marvel HeroClix TabApp sets starting with the Marvel Super Heroes pack.

At 96 points, Captain America is ready to lead your HeroClix TabApp figures into battle! Captain America begins the game with Running Shot to maneuver himself into position and sling his shield at his enemies, and the Improved Movement ability (signified by the running man image) allows him to ignore hindering terrain (the green square) and other characters (the radial dial image) when moving further enhancing his mobility in the game! An initial click of Leadership demonstrates Captain America’s inspiring presence on the battlefield.

And that’s not all! Captain America’s Protected By the Vibranium Shield Trait allows him to use Energy Shield/Deflection and share it with an adjacent friendly figure of a lower point value!

After his first click, Captain America then switches to Charge as he moves into close-combat agains his foes, and a subsequent click of Flurry allows Captain America to really dish out the punishment to opposing figures!

Mid- to late-dial Captain America repeats the powers in his speed slot in the same order, while his initial click of Invulnerability and then Toughness are replaced with Combat Reflexes, ensuring that the good Captain is tougher to hit in close combat!

Speaking of close combat, late-dial Captain America gains Close Combat Expert allowing for a greater damage potential and then finally Perplex as Captain America first feints and fakes out his opponents, and gives a little extra where it will do the most good in battle!

with a 100% HeroClix fully compatible dial, Captain America is ready to action! With his Avengers, Past, S.H.I.E.L.D., and Soldier keywords, including Captain America on your next HeroClix force will be a snap, or download HeroClix TabApp and play the solo game for some real-time heroic action!

Next we are happy to spotlight the God of Thunder, Thor!

Thor begins play with a Trait entitled The Mighty Avenger which allows him to use Super Strength.  This Trait is very useful as Thor moves into position for the attack (thanks to his Mjolnir’s Song special power), enabling to grab an object while preparing for his ranged attack (again, thanks to the Mjolnir’s Song special power).

Early- to mid-dial Thor trades his special power for straight up Charge as he puts his Super Strength (and strategically placed objects) to best use – IN MELEE! And if close combat isn’t really your thing, Penetrating/Psychic Blast, and later Pulse Wave, give you plenty of ranged combat options thanks to Thor’s 7 range value!

Toward the end of his dial, Thor exchanges Charge for Flurry as he lets the full fury of his Asgardian might loose upon his foes! With a full dial of the Indomitable ability, Thor can also act two turns in a row ensuring that he will always be ready for battle!

Thor is first protected by a single click of Impervious.  After that initial click, Thor enjoys damage reduction from both Invulnerability and then Toughness.

At 155 points, Thor is a great asset to your HeroClix force, particularly on teams utilizing the Asgardian, Avengers, Diety, or Warrior keywords!  And like Captain America above, Thor is fully compatible for both the HeroClix TabApp game as well as traditional HeroClix games!

Completing our trio of Avengers is none other than the “Armored Avenger” –  Iron Man!

HeroClix TabApp Iron Man is ready for battle!  Iron Man speeds onto the battlefield attacking his enemies thanks to both Running Shot and the Sharpshooter ability! Early-dial Penetrating/Psychic Blast allows Iron Man to bypass the damage-reducing powers of opposing figures while Outwit, Perplex, and Ranged Combat Expert all give Iron Man the option to do the greatest damage where it will do the greatest good!

Mid- and late-dial Iron Man demonstrates his resiliency with two clicks of his Armor Self-Defense special power.  Armor Self-Defense allows Iron Man to use Energy Shield/Deflection, Toughness, and Regeneration (!) allowing him to stay in the fight longer! And if Iron Man would rather fight than attempt to heal, Exploit Weakness ensures that if he hits, he’s bypassing the damage-reducing powers of his targets!

Initially, Iron Man enjoys the damage reduction afforded by Impervious, but later trades that for first Invulnerability and then finally Toughness.

At 149 points, Iron Man is a bargain with both the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. team abilities as well as the Armor, Avengers, Illuminati, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Scientist keywords!

We hope you’ve enjoyed this first look at the HeroClix TabApp and combat dials for the Marvel Super Heroes HeroClix TabApp pack! HeroClix TabApp packs will be available at Toys ‘R Us, Wal Mart, you friendly local game and comic stores later this month, and you can get the HeroClix TabApp app FOR FREE  in the iTunes App Store!
