DC HeroClix: Superman/Wonder Woman

DC HeroClix: Superman/Wonder Woman- Superman Red & Superman Blue

Greetings HeroClix fans, and welcome to another exciting preview from the upcoming DC HeroClix: Superman/Wonder Woman set! Today, we’re looking at two sides of the same coin – the calmer, collected Superman Blue, and his more aggressive side, Superman Red!

DC HeroClix: Superman/Wonder Woman - Superman Red

These two characters have a lot in common, but the differences in the two make their play style much different.  Both possess the trait “Wait, That’s Not Superman…” which allows you to swap out a Superman or Superboy and replace them with Superman Red or Superman Blue. But, Superman Red has an added bonus to this trait that allows you to swap out a Superman or Superboy for both Superman Red and Superman Blue– a 1 for 2 swap that can really tilt things in your favor!

Superman Blue and Superman Red also possess an additional similar trait, for Blue, it’s called Red Energy Absorption and Release, and for Red it’s called Blue Energy Absorption and Release. Both traits begin by stating that the character can use Force Blast with an added effect– and for Superman Blue, he and adjacent friendly characters ignore damage dealt by Pulse Wave; and for Superman Red, he and adjacent friendly characters ignore damage dealt by Energy Explosion.

Switching back to Superman Blue now, he’s able to be played at both a 7-click 125-point dial, and a 3-click 50-point dial. He is, of course, a flyer, and additionally has a range of 7 squares with 2 targets. For standard powers, he brings a myriad of fun options, including Running Shot, Sidestep, Hypersonic Speed, Energy Explosion, Super Senses, Regeneration, and Perplex. He’s the more controlled and subdued version of the energy-powered version of Clark, so his powers tend to be a little more nuanced and subtle rather than those of Superman Red.

Right off the bat, Superman Red is built to last longer than his Blue counterpart. He’s Indomitable, and has only a range of 6 squares, with 1 target. That said, he’s also got a longer dial, playable as either an 8-click 175-point figure, or a 5-click 100-point figure. His standard powers reflect both his ability to hang around longer in a fight and his more aggressive nature, bringing Charge, Hypersonic Speed, Pulse Wave, Steal Energy, Impervious, and Probability Control to the table. He’s there to make sure damage sticks to your opponent!

While there are definite differences between the two characters, that uniqueness really lends to how playable both pieces are. If you’re in need of a more alpha-attacker, Superman Red is your choice, but if you need someone that can be played with more finesse, Superman Blue is your go-to. And, both are able to be played on some exciting themed teams! Superman Blue can join Justice League, Kryptonian, Metropolis, or Reporter teams, while Superman Red is more limited, only being a part of either Kryptonian or Metropolis teams. Of course, no matter if you play them on a themed team or not, both are in possession of the Superman Ally team ability, meaning that both characters (and any wildcards you have on your team!) will be able to ignore the effects of Hindering Terrain.

That’s all for today, ‘Clix fans! We hope you’ve enjoyed this look into an underappreciated time in the history of the Man of Steel. Stay tuned next time for more exciting previews from the DC HeroClix: Superman/Wonder Woman set, and keep rolling sixes!
