DC Comics HeroClix- Supergirl & Her Super Pets

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

We hope you were able to participate in our DC Comics HeroClix: World’s Finest Pre-Release and Release Day Organized Play (OP ) events.  If not, we encourage you to find OP tournaments at a venue near you by visiting the WizKids Event System.  For today’s team-building exercise we bring you a 300-point force that features Supergirl, from the DC Comics HeroClix: Superman/Wonder Woman set, and two super pets:  Streaky, a character available in the World’s Finest OP Kit, and Krypto, who is also from the Superman/Wonder Woman set!  Let’s take a look at Supergirl & her Super Pets starting with Streaky!

DC Comics HeroClix- Supergirl & Her Super Pets - Streaky

Streaky has a short three-click dial for 50 points.  Streaky has the Wing speed symbol and the Tiny damage symbol.  He also can shoot up to four squares away.  Opposing characters will find Streaky tough to shake off, thanks to his This Cat Has Claws! trait.  When an adjacent opposing character is moved or placed, This Cat Has Claws! lets you place Streaky adjacent to that character after actions resolve.  Streaky does not require opponents to break away.  The rest of Streaky’s short dial features a mix of solid combat values and appropriate standard powers (Hypersonic Speed, Flurry, Precision Strike, and Blades/Claws/Fangs), along with one special power, Cosmic Whiskers, which lets him use Super Senses and Toughness.

DC Comics HeroClix- Supergirl & Her Super Pets - Krypto

Krypto is next up on our force, and he also comes in at 50 points but has a four-click dial.  Like Streaky, Krypto has the Wing speed symbol, the Tiny damage symbol, and can shoot up to four squares away.  Also like Streaky, Krypto hits the battlefield with a trait that brings him up close to an opponent.  Krypto’s trait, Loyal Companion, lets you place him in a square adjacent to a character that attacked and damaged a friendly character within eight squares named Superman, Superboy or SupergirlHypersonic Speed, Precision Strike, Blades/Claws/Fangs, Toughness, Super Senses and Battle Fury round out Krypto’s mix of standard powers.  He also has two special powers: Sic ‘Em, Boy!, which lets him use Charge and Plasticity, and Kryptonian Nose, which lets him ignore opposing characters’ Shape Change.

Streaky and Krypto both have the Animal, Kryptonian and Metropolis keywords.  They also have the Superman Ally team ability, which lets them treat hindering terrain as clear terrain for movement and line of fire purposes.  At only 50 points each, neither super pet would be considered the tentpole of your force.  Supergirl, the final member of our force, gets that designation.  Let’s take a quick look at what she brings to the fight.

DC Comics HeroClix- Supergirl & Her Super Pets - Supergirl

Supergirl comes in at 190 points, can shoot up to seven squares away, and has a pair of traits that you should find helpful at various stages in the game.  The first trait, The Odds are Against Me, lets you place an Outnumbered token on her card at the end of your turn if Supergirl was given a non-free action that turn and the opposing force has more characters on the map than you.  Once Supergirl has generated enough Outnumbered tokens, she can be given a free action to remove two tokens from her card and make a close or ranged combat attack.  Her other trait, Last Daughter of Krypton, modifies her combat values by +1 if she’s the only character on your force.

At 190 points, Supergirl has a deep nine-click dial, the Kryptonian and Metropolis keywords, and the Superman Ally team ability.  She also has a steady set of combat values and an aggressive mix of standard and special powers that make her worthy of being the focal point of your force.  Her first special power, No Place to Hide, is found in her speed slot and lets her use Sidestep and Improved Movement: Blocking (Burst).  The second special power, Standing Fast, lets you give Supergirl a free action to remove one Outnumbered token from her card to modify her speed value by +3 for a turn.  Hypersonic Speed, Flurry, Super Strength, Energy Explosion, Impervious, Invulnerability, Toughness and Ranged Combat Expert round out the rest of her powers.

All three characters bring our force build total to 290 points, which leaves some room to add a special object or bystander.  Your force also qualifies as a themed team under either the Kryptonian or Metropolis keywords.

To really have fun with this force, you’ll want to use Streaky to harass an opponent and keep them close by using the This Cat Has Claws! trait.  Get Krypto into the fight as well by using Charge from his Sic ‘Em, Boy! special power.  Both Streaky and Krypto start their dials with Precision Strike so you should be able to whittle away at an opponent’s dial without worrying too much about damage-reducing powers.  Supergirl’s opening mix of Hypersonic Speed, Super Strength and high damage values mean you’ll want her to swoop in for a KO once Streaky and Krypto have softened up an opponent.  In case an opponent manages to damage Supergirl, you’ll want to keep Krypto nearby to take advantage of his Loyal Companion trait.

Don’t fret too much if Streaky and Krypto are KO’d as Supergirl’s Last Daughter of Krypton would then kick in and Outnumbered tokens should be easier to come by to get in more opportunities for her to attack.  Hopefully, by that point in the match Supergirl has things well under control and victory is a foregone conclusion for your force!

That’s all for now!  Thanks for joining us today for a closer look at Supergirl & her Super Pets. Don’t forget to visit the WizKids Event System to find Organized Play tournaments near you.  Until next time, may all your die rolls be ever in your favor!
