Marvel HeroClix: The Uncanny X-Men

Marvel HeroClix: Uncanny X-Men- Omega Red

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

We hope you are ready for another preview of the greatly anticipated, Marvel HeroClix: Uncanny X-Men set, releasing this May with the Pre-Release event in April!  Today’s sneak peek is a fan favorite villain, and one that has only been ‘Clixed’ once before; introducing Omega Red!

Marvel HeroClix: Uncanny X-Men- Omega Red

This walking terror from the former Soviet Union is a 90 point close combat power house.  Omega Red uses the carbonadium coils embedded in his arms like whips and tentacle snares and can also drain the life right out of his victims to boost his own powers.  Reflecting that, his trait Energy Vampire has him starting the game on his green line at click #3 and grants him the use of Steal Energy and the ability to heal past his green starting line when he does.  His other trait, Deadly Coils gives him the Giant Reach ability which he can use to make close attacks within 3 squares.  Also, when he hits a character with a close attack he can place them adjacent to him at the end of the action.

Omega Red’s dial starts off ready to grab an opponent and drain their life away with Charge and Exploit – from up to three squares away thanks to his trait – plus Poison, and Toughness on defense with very respectable combat values.  If Omega Red hits and heals using Steal Energy from this trait his numbers stay the same but his defense improves to Invulnerability.  If he heals with Steal Energy again his topmost click gives him some truly monstrous combat values.  If, instead of healing and getting more powerful, he takes some damage he’ll drop the Toughness for boosting his defense value with Combat Reflexes and switch back and forth between Plasticity and Charge.  His last click is his weakest combat click but it also gives him another option to heal damage with Regeneration.

This figure demonstrates some real synergy between powers.  His two traits extend his close combat reach by a good measure and pull opponents closer so they can be poisoned when they aren’t being slapped by penetrating close combat attacks.  On top of that he can heal from his wounds and become nastier!

For most of Omega Red’s career he had been hunting down Wolverine, Sabretooth, Maverick, and others associated with Department H and Canada’s Weapon X program.  Here he gets the Weapon X keyword to represent not only his familiarity with his enemies but also his willingness to work with Sabretooth and others if it meant he could use them to get a shot at Wolverine or anyone else who might know where the Carbonadium Synthesizer is hidden, the one device that could cure his need to feed off of the life energy of others.

Marvel HeroClix: Uncanny X-Men – Mystique

Greetings, HeroClix fans!

Welcome to another exciting preview from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Uncanny X-Men set! Today, we’re looking at the shapeshifting femme fatale herself, Mystique!

 Marvel HeroClix: Uncanny X-Men- Mystique

At 60 points, Mystique is a low cost, high-impact character who possesses the Brotherhood of Mutants team ability, a range of 4 squares, and the ability to be played on Brotherhood of Mutants, Freedom Force, Marauders, and Spy teams. But let’s take a look at her dial to see what niche she fits on any team.

Up first are her traits. Her first trait, called Freedom Force, states that when this character is given a move action, after actions resolve she can use Force Blast as a free action. The second trait Mystique possesses is a bit more nuanced, and is called Shapeshifter. This trait states that Mystique can use Shape Change, and begins the game with a Shapeshift Token on her Character Card. While she possesses a Shapeshift Token, she can use Improved Movement – Ignores Characters, and opposing characters can only target her if they began the turn adjacent to her. With that, when Mystique targets an opposing character with an attack, you remove all Shapeshift Tokens. However, when she succeeds using Shape Change, if she doesn’t already have a Shapeshift Token on her card, you will then place one on her card.

With those traits comes some significant standard powers, including Sidestep, Stealth, Precision Strike, Willpower, Combat Reflexes, Leadership, and Close Combat Expert. And, while her dial might only be five clicks long, she really shines throughout with consistent values and good power placement.
