Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Golden Claw

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Welcome back! We have another character to show you from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. set! Plan Chu is a direct descendant of the Mongolian Warlord, Genghis Khan. Formerly the head of the Atlas Foundation, Golden Claw used the organization to establish world domination. Let’s see what he brings to the tabletop in today’s preview.

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Golden Claw

Golden Claw is a 135 point dangerous and cunning master of deception. His trait Psychic Energies of Mind-Slaves has him putting his victims in his thrall with his Mind-Slave tokens. His Mind-Slaves get a -1 to all their combat values when attacking Golden Claw, conversely, remove a Mind-Slave token and Golden Claw gets +1 to all combat values until your next turn!

At the beginning of his dial, he has Stealth to work behind the scenes and Penetrating/Psychic Blast, with a 7 range dual target, for shredding apart others minds. His Impervious removes the slight sting from his attackers, and they will rue the day they come across his ability to Outwit.

His next 4 clicks have the special power Id Paralyzer. It allows Golden Claw to use Mind Control. If his chosen fodder has a Mind-Slave token, his line of fire isn’t blocked when he makes them do his bidding. Walls, elevated terrain, blocking terrain: these are naught to Golden Claw once he has had your mind!

His next click introduces Illusionary Disguise, which allows Golden Claw the use of Probability Control and Shape Change. He is so good at disguising himself that he succeeds on a roll of 4-6 when targeted by a non-adjacent character. And although he drops Impervious for Toughness, his defense value goes up to an 18.

Golden Claw gains Precision Strike mid-dial, so all of the planning that he has been doing will definitely come to fruition. At the end of his dial he has Regeneration, so he can keep going strong even though he’s over 150 years old, and Probability Control, to make sure things go according to plan!

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Contessa Valentina & Madame Hydra

Continuing with previews of the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Booster Bricks, we take a look at one of Nick Fury’s closest associates and former love interests, Contessa Valentina! 

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Contessa Valentina


At 85 points, the uncommon #018 Contessa Valentina makes an affordable team-focused addition to your S.H.I.E.L.D. or Spy keyword teams. The Contessa has two traits that make her an excellent team player, both in helping her teammates as well as benefiting from them. The first trait, Changing the World, is shared by other characters with the S.H.I.E.L.D. keyword, but with different variation of it. For the Contessa, her version of the Changing the World trait is called Superior Espionage— this restricts the opponent’s ability to use Willpower and Outwit if there are two characters with the S.H.I.E.L.D. keyword adjacent to them! With her second trait, Setting the Table for Betrayal, Contessa Valentina shows her true colors. She also has use of the Mastermind trait for her entire dial, but can only use it to transfer damage to characters with the Hydra or S.H.I.E.L.D. keywords. When she uses Mastermind, you add a ‘Traitor’ token to her card, roll a d6, and add 1 for each Traitor token she has on her card.  If you roll high enough, you can replace her with #057 Madame Hydra (see below) on the same click number!

While she plots her betrayal, the Contessa sports a healthy mix of close combat and ranged combat options.  She has a 5 range with two targets and the S.H.I.E.L.D. team ability to help her adjacent allies with their ranged attacks. From the start, she is ready to draw in opposing characters for close combat using Stealth; then she can use Precision Strike with her 10 attack value, Combat Reflexes with her 17 defense value, and a base 3 damage.  For her second and third clicks, as her defense and damage values slowly tick down, she changes gears and trades Stealth for Running Shot and Combat Reflexes for Energy Shield/Deflection. For the back half of her dial, Contessa Valentina switches back to close combat mode with three clicks of Sidestep, Poison, Combat Reflexes, and Close Combat Expert; a deadly combination. Remember that Sidestep and Poison are both free actions that can be used at the beginning of your turn in any order. With Mastermind granting her the ability to transfer damage to friendly characters, you could keep her on her Poison clicks for as long as you need, just watch out for opposing characters with Precision Strike!

Whether or not her true intentions are revealed throughout the course of the fight, Contessa Valentina brings a solid mix of teamwork utility, self-survivability, and has the potential to be deadly up-close or at range. Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Madame Hydra

At 100 points, the super rare #057 Madame Hydra is 15 points more than the piece she replaces. The great thing about her is that you can play her on your force like a normal character, too, rather than using her as a replacement for Contessa. She has 6 range with two targets and the Hydra team ability to help her allies hit their marks. She also has the Assassin, Hydra, S.H.I.E.L.D., and Spy keywords. Madame Hydra brings two traits to the table; one to hurt opponents with and another to aid your own cause with. As the Contessa takes her role as a leader of Hydra, she features one of the Hydra’s Reach shared traits that can be found on other nefarious Hydra villains. Her version— Hydra’s Reach is Never-Ending— adds an action token to and deals one penetrating damage to a character of your choice adjacent to an attacker that dealt her damage. Either the opponent is going to break up their forces and forfeit any advantages they get from keeping their characters adjacent to avoid triggering this trait, or they’ll pay the consequences. Her second trait, Beauty With a Black Heart, grants her a click of healing every time a friendly character that shares a keyword with her is KO’d. With the right mix of lower point value S.H.I.E.L.D. or Hydra soldier teammates, you can definitely keep Madame Hydra in play for a while.

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Fast Forces




Agents, it’s time. The forces of Hydra are amassing, and we’re calling in all active members of S.H.I.E.L.D. to prep for deployment.

Welcome to an exciting look into the espionage filled world of the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. set! Today, we’re going to examine the Fast Forces pack for the set featuring the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and a special trait shared by the characters called Field Team Backup.

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Agent Coulson

The best place to start, of course, is at the top – and the best man to lead any S.H.I.E.L.D. incursion is Cheese himself, Agent Coulson! The Son of Coul features a split dial, and can be played at 75 points with 6 clicks of life, or at 50 points with 4 clicks of life. He begins with a trait called Call in the Reinforcements, which allows for Agent Coulson to be given a power action, letting him choose another friendly character of equal or fewer points that shares a keyword with him and has no action tokens. You’re then able to place that character adjacent to him! It’s a twist on the special power possessed by the original Agent Coulson figure, but this one sticks throughout the entire dial. Coulson also comes equipped with an array of powers that make him a worthwhile opponent in the field, including Running Shot, Penetrating/Psychic Blast, Toughness, Combat Reflexes, Outwit, and Close Combat Expert.

Where Agent Coulson and the rest of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Field Team really start to show their strengths, however, is when you take into account the aforementioned Field Team Backup trait. Each character possessing this trait will be granted the use of Probability Control if they meet some specific criteria – namely, if another friendly character with the trait is attacking a single character, another character can use Probability Control if they have a clear line of fire to the target of the attack.

This alone makes a team of relatively low point characters a force to be reckoned with – there’s a boat load of both Outwit and Perplex on the characters possessing the Field Team Backup trait, so the opportunity to reroll a missed attack and make the slightly middling damage values stick can really tip the scales in your favor. And, of course, when you have characters like The Cavalry (a.k.a. Agent May) and Fitz, you’re starting to form a really strong squad.

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Agent May

Agent May, like Agent Coulson, can be played at both 75 points for 6 clicks of life, and at 50 points for 4 clicks of life. She’s loaded with move-and-attack powers on her first four clicks, with Running Shot and Charge, as well as closing out with two clicks of Sidestep, allowing her to attempt to readjust her positioning on the fly for free when she’s neck deep in bad guys. She also brings Energy Explosion, Super Senses, Exploit Weakness, and Perplex for her basic powers, but where Agent May really shines is her special defensive power on her final four clicks of life. Called Never Outnumbered, this power calls for May to modify her defensive value by +1 for each adjacent opposing character – meaning, when Agent May is moving and is charging in to attack opponents, she could conceivably bump her defense to a 20 on click 4 if she’s near 3 opposing characters.

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Fitz

Of course, every good assault team needs tactical and technological support – and that’s where Fitz comes in! Fitz is primarily a backline supporter, utilizing his powers of Sidestep, Stealth, and Energy Shield/Deflection to keep him hidden or defended. Of course, Fitz being Fitz, he’s also been working with some Experimental Tech, so he can use his drones (You know, Happy, Dopey, Sleepy, Grumpy, Sneezy, Bashful, and Doc) to give him makeshift Telekinesis. Fitz also has a special power on his the final 3 clicks of his damage called Tech’s Ready Now, Sir! This ability grants Fitz the use of Perplex – but, in addition to that, he can also be given a power action, allowing any friendly character within line of fire that shares a keyword with him the ability to use Perplex.

And then, of course, there’s H.E.N.R.Y.

 Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- H.E.N.R.Y.

H.E.N.R.Y. is a one-click piece that Fitz can summon at the beginning of the game at no cost via his trait Good for One Free Monkey. But, since everyone wants to have a holographic monkey on their team, H.E.N.R.Y. can also be added to your force sans-Fitz for only 15 points. Being a holographic monkey has its advantages – he can use both Phasing/Teleport and Super Senses, and possesses a special power called Fitz’s Helper Monkey, granting him the usage of Empower and Enhancement.

The Field Team Backup trait makes for a solid foundation for an unassuming team. And the good news is that you won’t have to rely on just the five characters in the Fast Forces set possessing the trait to utilize it – there will be additional characters in the main Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. set that also possess the trait.
