Marvel HeroClix: 2014 Monthly OP Kit Preview

Marvel HeroClix 2014 Excalibur OP: Pete Wisdom!

HeroClix-OrganizedPlay

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

We are so pleased to continue our series of previews for the WizKids HeroClix: Marvel 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit! The Marvel 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit includes 4 copies of 3 Limited Edition figures not found anywhere else. Additionally, all three Limited Edition figures in the Marvel 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit interact with team bases from the Marvel HeroClix: Wolverine and the X-Men set.

m-022-pete-wisdom

Pete Wisdom has a trait called I’m In Charge Now, Love; this will allow Pete Wisdom to be attached to the WaX T003 Excalibur Team Base instead of Captain Britain. While Pete Wisdom is attached, if Excalibur could use Captain Britain’s asset power, it may use Pete Wisdom’s asset power instead.

Pete Wisdom’s asset power allows the WaX T003 Excalibur team base to replace its Defense Value with the printed Defense Value of the attacker, when it is targeted with an attack.

Pete Wisdom can use the Sharpshooter combat ability which will allow Pete Wisdom to use Improved Targeting to ignore opposing characters when drawing a Line of Fire and he may make a ranged combat attack targeting adjacent opposing characters.

Pete Wisdom has a 5 range value with 2 lightning bolts and his special attack power called Hot Knives will allow Pete Wisdom to use Penetrating/Psychic Blast. When Pete Wisdom does and hits an adjacent character, increase the damage dealt to that character by 1. The wording on this is the same as a critical hit and will not be subject to the rule of 3. Pete Wisdom does overlap this power with Running Shot for the first 2 clicks and Sidestep for the next 2.

When Pete Wisdom can use Running Shot he can also use Toughness and Outwit. When Pete Wisdom is able to use Sidestep he would also be able to use Combat Reflexes and Perplex. On his 5th and final click Pete Wisdom would be able to use Precision Strike.

Pete Wisdom is 100 points to field as a part of your team and if theme is your strategy then he has the Excalibur, Spy, and X-Force keywords.

When Pete Wisdom is on a themed team for 3 points you could add the X-Force Additional Team Ability (ATA) and he would be able to ignore the effects of hindering terrain on movement.

Thanks for reading and be sure to continue to check back as we look at figures from the upcoming WizKids HeroClix: Marvel 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit. Until then, Shape Change for the Win!!

Marvel HeroClix 2014 X-Men Monthly OP Kit: Rogue!

HeroClix-OrganizedPlay

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we bring you another preview from the Marvel HeroClix: X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit! The X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit includes 4 copies of 3 Limited Edition figures not found anywhere else. Additionally, all three Limited Edition figures in the X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit interact with the X-Men team bases from Marvel HeroClix: Wolverine and the X-Men. Today’s preview is Rogue, let’s see how she stacks up.

m-021-rogue

Rogue is 99 points of pain and suffering for your opponent. She has the Wing combat symbol and a zero range so she is definitely upwardly mobile with her special attack power Southern Hospitality that allows Rogue to use Sidestep and Charge. She has Super Strength and Toughness so when she uses her attack special power, make sure you pick up a housewarming gift in the form of an object.

Rogue has a damage special attack power as well named Take Who You Are. It states when Rogue hits an opposing character, choose attack or defense. After actions resolve, you may choose to replace her combat value with the hit character’s printed combat value of the chosen type and she can use the hit character’s power of the chosen type. This effect lasts until she chooses to replace her combat value again. Her zero range could be less of a problem with this power.

Her top 3 clicks are identical as far as powers go, but Rogue’s dial changes at click 4. She loses her ability to use Sidestep and just possesses standard Charge and swaps out Super Strength for Precision Strike for her next 2 clicks. So far each click has brought the ability to give high damage with Super Strength or minimum damage with Precision Strike, but on click 5 she gets Exploit Weakness. Seeing how damage never goes below 3 on her dial, she will be definitely dishing out the damage. Her last 2 clicks also trade Toughness for Willpower so she can finish off her opposition without taking damage herself.

Rogue also can be added to the Blue Strike Force team base and she brings the ability for it with T001 X-Men: Blue Strike Force which allows for when a character goes on Solo Adventure from this team character, choose a standard power the team character can use. Rogue can use that power as long as this asset is displayed. She also has the Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants, and X-Men keywords so building a theme team with her will be easy.

Thanks for reading yet another preview from the Marvel HeroClix: X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit and be sure to come back soon for our next Marvel HeroClix Monthly OP preview, it wouldn’t be wise if you skip it!

Marvel HeroClix X-Men 2014 Monthly OP Kit: Psylocke!

HeroClix-OrganizedPlay

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

We are pleased to continue our series of previews for the Marvel HeroClix: X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit! The X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit includes 4 copies of 3 Limited Edition figures not found anywhere else. Additionally, all three Limited Edition figures in the X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit interact with the X-Men team bases from Marvel HeroClix: Wolverine and the X-Men.

m-020-psylocke

Psylocke will be able to take full advantage of her 7 movement value and top dial Stealth, with her Improved Movement hindering terrain. This version of Psylocke is designed for close combat, having a 17 defensive value with Combat Reflexes and Perplex. Her Perplex could be used to modify any combat value but wouldn’t a 20 defensive value from a close combat attack be nice.

Psylocke’s special A Well Placed Blade power; will allow her to use Blades/Claws/Fangs. If Psylocke rolls a 10 or higher and she uses Blades/Claws/Fangs to replace her damage value, then that damage becomes penetrating.

After click one, Stealth turns to Sidestep and Psylocke can now use Super Senses. On click 3 the other of Psylocke’s special powers is called Telepathic Illusions. Psylocke can use Shape Change. If the character targeting her can’t use Mind Control or Outwit or Perplex, Psylocke will succeed on her Shape Change roll with a 4 – 6. Psylocke will finish out her dial with the use of Exploit Weakness.

Psylocke has the X-Men team ability and can be fielded on a part of your team for 62 points. Psylocke can be added to Excalibur, The Hand, Mojoverse, X-Men, and X-Force themed teams.

Psylocke may replace WXM063 Psylocke when building your X-Men: Blue Strike Force team base. If you do you would use the asset power printed on this card instead of the one on the team base. When Psylocke is attached to the X-Men: Blue Strike Force, characters on a Solo Adventure from this team character can use Shape Change.

Thanks for reading and be sure to continue to check back as we look at figures from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit. Until then, Shape Change for the Win!!

Marvel HeroClix X-Men 2014 Monthly OP Kit: Angel!

HeroClix-OrganizedPlay

Greetings HeroClix fans!

We are pleased to start our series of previews for the Marvel HeroClix: X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit!

To kick things off, please welcome the high-flying Angel! One of Charles Xavier’s original X-Men, Angel boasts both a new HeroClix dial and sculpt unique to this monthly Organized Play kit. The other two figures from the X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit include previously released sculpts paired with new dials.

m-019-angel

Angel comes into play at 65 points and hits the battlefield with a trait called Same Guy, Different Approach. This trait allows Angel to be used in place of #067 Archangel on the #T002 X-Men Gold Strike Force team base. While Angel is attached to X-Men Gold Strike Force, it may use the following asset power instead of Archangel’s:

Angel 1

Angel possesses the Transporter Wing symbol, which lets him use the Carry, Flight, and Move and Attack abilities. On his first two clicks, Angel can help get teammates into place with the Carry ability and his attack values don’t suffer too much if he also chooses to use Hypersonic Speed (with a -2 modifier to his attack value) via the Move and Attack ability. To knock back opposing characters, Angel has the Force Blast power on the first two clicks of his speed slot.

On the first two clicks of Angel’s damage slot he can dish out 3 clicks of damage to opposing characters. Angel also has a special power called Aerial Recon and Assault, which opens up his offensive potential by letting him use Close Combat Expert. Additionally, Aerial Recon and Assault lets Angel help his teammates by preventing opposing characters within 4 squares from using Stealth. Defensively, Angel has the Toughness power to help him absorb some of the damage dealt to him.

Once Angel is off his top two clicks, he drops Force Blast in favor of Charge but picks up Quake in his attack slot as his new means of knocking back opposing characters. Defensively, Angel switches from Toughness to Super Senses. Aerial Recon and Assault sticks around on Angel’s third click, then is replaced with Exploit Weakness on his last two clicks.

Angel makes a viable taxi or third attacker for your force and has the Celebrity, X-Factor and X-Men keywords as options if you choose to add him onto a themed team. He also possesses the X-Men team ability, which lets him heal a click if he’s adjacent to a character using the same team ability.

Thanks for reading! Join us next week for another look at the Marvel HeroClix: X-Men 2014 Monthly Organized Play kit as we visit a member of the Braddock clan who once was an assassin for The Hand. And be sure to come back later this week for more previews from other upcoming HeroClix releases!

A Special Marvel HeroClix Announcement from Senator Robert Kelly!

XMenDoFP-logo

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

WizKids Games is pleased to bring you this special announcement from Senator Robert Kelly:

‘My fellow humans, I’m pleased to let you all know that today we’ve taken an enormous step in protecting humans from mutants. Today, a new generation of Sentinels has been deployed to help protect normal people from the mutant menace.

This newest generation of Sentinels is more advanced than ever, with plasteel-reinforced cores, advanced targeting computers, mutant dampening fields, cloaking abilities, and a laundry list of other technical advances which I’ll spare you the details of. Despite this, I am not complacent: the mutant threat is greater than ever.

Mutants are more than unnaturally strong. Not all of their abilities are clear to the naked eye, like a winged man. Some can see the future, others control cause earthquakes, or even move objects with their minds. I’m most terrified of the mutant abilities we haven’t seen yet. I only pray that this new generation of Sentinels can protect us from the emerging mutant threat.

This is not the first time that our country has faced new and unexpected challenges, but the task at hand is new. Douglas MacArthur once said, “I am concerned for the security of our great Nation; not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within.” His concern is truer now than ever. Support Sentinels and help your government protect you!”

Follow Senator Kelly’s advice and get out to your local HeroClix retailer to support Sentinels or defeat them with new and unexpected mutant powers with Marvel HeroClix: X-Men- Days of Future Past!

Marvel HeroClix: Deadpool Preview

Marvel HeroClix Deadpool: Shang Chi and the Cat!

Greetings HeroClix fans!

We’re just days away from the release of Marvel HeroClix: Deadpool! Today’s preview brings us to one of the Marvel Universe’s top martial artists and his Prime counterpart in the set. We are pleased to present the Master of Kung Fu Shang-Chi and the master thief known as the Cat! First up, let’s look at Shang-Chi and his dial:

047a-Shang-Chi

Shang-Chi is a 90-point close combat machine with a set of attack values that never dip below 11. The rest of his numbers are fairly consistent as well. Shang-Chi also has an Improved Movement ability called My Journey Never Ends which lets him ignore elevated terrain and outdoor blocking terrain when he moves.

The star of Shang-Chi’s dial is a trait called Counter-Block that lets his deadly hands of kung fu pound away at an opponent. Each time an opposing character targets and misses Shang-Chi with an attack, place a Counter token on his card. Shang-Chi can be given a free action to remove all Counter tokens and make that many close combat attacks. These attacks have a locked damage value of 2. At the end of your turn, remove all Counter tokens. Counter-Block appears on the first four clicks of Shang-Chi’s dial.

Counter-Block works well with the other powers found on Shang-Chi’s dial. On the front half of Shang-Chi’s dial he has Charge to quickly get him into the thick of combat then attack. On the first four clicks of Shang-Chi’s attack slot he has a special power called The Greatest Martial Artist of Our Time, which grants him the use of Close Combat Expert and Precision Strike.

Move Shang-Chi adjacent to an opposing character with Charge, then make a close combat action as a free action. Follow that up by using a free action to use Counter-Block and keep punching away. With the Precision Strike from The Greatest Martial Artist of Our Time, Shang-Chi’s attacks from Counter-Block can’t be evaded and the damage dealt can’t be reduced below 1 or transferred.

Defensively, Shang-Chi has a full dial of Combat Reflexes and a consistent set of combat values that make it difficult to land close combat attacks on him. On his opening click, Shang-Chi has an effective defense of 20 against close combat attacks. Shang-Chi also has the Indomitable combat ability, which lets him use Willpower to follow up with his attacks without fear of taking pushing damage. Shang-Chi has shared his vast martial arts knowledge to other heroes so Empower appears on his first and last two clicks, allowing him to boost the damage value of an adjacent friendly character when that character makes a close combat attack.

Shang-Chi has an array of named and generic keywords to aid you in incorporating him on themed teams: Avengers, Heroes for Hire, Martial Artist, Marvel Knights, and Spy. With a point cost below 100, Shang-Chi leaves plenty of room for other heavy hitters or support characters on your force. You may want to team up Shang-Chi with the Daughters of the Dragon, Colleen Wing and Misty Knight (LINK TO THAT PREVIEW HERE), for the bulk of a themed Heroes for Hire force.

Now that we’ve seen what Shang-Chi brings to the battlefield, let’s take a look at the dial for his Prime counterpart, Shen Kuei (aka Cat).

047b-Cat

Cat comes into play at 81 points and shares the Heroes for Hire, Martial Artist and Spy keywords with Shang-Chi. Cat also has the Wild Pack keyword for an additional theme team building option.

A master thief whose martial arts skill rivals Shang-Chi’s, Cat hits the battlefield with an aggressive power set and a trait called Replaced it with a Broken Forgery that can really foil the plans of an opponent who relies heavily on relics and resources. When an opposing character with a relic or resource attached to it makes an attack, after actions resolve that player rolls a d6 that can’t be rerolled. On a result of 1 or 2, that player then chooses to either remove the assigned relic from the game or remove an item attached to resource from the game.

Moving on to the rest of Cat’s dial, he has a special power scattered throughout his speed slot called Coolest Cat in the Whole Darn World, which lets him use Charge, Flurry, and Stealth. Regular use of Charge appears on the rest of Cat’s clicks.

Cat’s dial starts with an attack value of 12 and ends with 10s on his last two clicks. On Cat’s first two clicks he has Quake, which works in combination with the Charge power. Speaking of combining powers, Cat has a special power on the first four clicks of his damage slot called Equal of Shang-Chi and Iron Fist that lets him use Close Combat Expert as a close combat action. This means Cat can use Close Combat Expert with the Flurry and/or Charge granted by his Coolest Cat in the Whole Darn World special power. Cat’s last two clicks feature Exploit Weakness to help his damage get past opposing characters’ reducers. You won’t be able to use Close Combat Expert from Equal of Shang-Chi and Iron Fist with Cat’s Quake as each power requires a close combat action to activate.

Defensively, Cat alternates between Super Senses and Combat Reflexes on his first three clicks. He then ends the rest of his dial with the latter power.

Like Shang-Chi, Cat has a very consistent set of combat values. In his damage track alone, Cat sports nothing but base values of 2 which are supplemented by either Equal of Shang-Chi and Iron Fist or Exploit Weakness. Cat makes a viable choice as a secondary attacker and should find his way on many forces as a close combat threat.

Thanks for reading! Enjoy your chimichangas and join us next time as we uncover more secrets from upcoming HeroClix sets.

Marvel Dice Masters Update!

Event Image

Greetings WizKids Customers.

I wanted to follow up on a few topics regarding Marvel Dice Masters and broaden the update to include some HeroClix topics as well. We’ll be releasing more of these updates in the near future.

First off, thank you again for your enthusiasm and support for Marvel Dice Masters.   We understand the frustrations of not having enough product. As we noted in our first update, we thought we had ordered enough product to last us three to six months when we initially placed the first print run.

Marvel Dice Masters

MDM Reprint #1 (Starters): The starter reprint is arriving as we speak. We took the opportunity to split the air shipment between a west coast warehouse and a mid-west warehouse, to speed our time to market. It looks like we will start shipping orders late next week , with some trailing orders hitting the beginning of the follow week.   Additionally, there is a portion of this reprint that went by boat and should be arriving in a few weeks. However, due to the chance of custom holds and other delays, we are unable to project when this portion will be available.

MDM Reprint #1 (Boosters): The first reprint for the boosters is scheduled to hit in July. We’re looking into options to expedite this shipment due to the continued high demand. We’re going to have to send another update out when we have more clarity on the shipping.

The reality of the situation is that even with these inbound shipments, we are still far short of the back order demand. We placed this reprint last March and the numbers had just started to ramp up at that time.

MDM Reprint #2 (Starters and Boosters): This reprint was issued before launch and should infuse a good amount of supply into the channel. I am confident it will make a significant dent. The problem is that this shipment is not slated to arrive until the end of August. Again, we’re looking at options to expedite the delivery, but I won’t have clarity on that topic for a few weeks.

A short aside: Air shipping is very costly. As most of you know, we’ve been aggressive in our pricing for this product. Instead of raising the price we are trying to find the right balance between supplying the market and keeping the price where it is. Air shipping all of the product would require raising prices across the board. Nobody wants that.

MDM at Origins Game Fair 2014: As part of the belt tightening leading up to the launch of MDM, we released all of our reserved product to the distributors. This means that we have no starter product for our scheduled events at Origins. Instead of peeling off product from the reprint, we’re going to cancel any MDM events at Origins that require the purchase of sealed product.   I’m confident this is the right decision in the long term and for the good of the business.

MDM Set 1 Collation: We always receive a lot of questions on this topic. Given the Quarriors DNA of the MDM, many people are asking about the cost to collect an entire set. As a policy, WizKids will not comment on collation, nor do we guarantee collation of a randomize product. It is a long-standing policy, one that we have proven out through experience, and one that we’re not going to change. However, based on feedback, we’re going to tweak the next set, The Uncanny X-Men. First of all, we’re going to move to a HeroClix sized Gravity Feed unit which will fit 90 MDM booster packs. This should allow for a little more space for the packs to lay flat.  Also, we’re going to change the insertion rate to target one or more Super Rares per gravity feed. As always, we do not guarantee collation; it is simply a target we strive for.

HeroClix

Last year was a pretty amazing year for HeroClix, however, it did not come without a few bumps in the road.   Specifically, a number of last minute delays forced us to move release dates on short notice. There are many things that can (and will) derail a products release date. Most are under our control; unfortunately, some are not.   During the last six months, we got hit with so many issues, it is remarkable that we were able to perform as we did. It is a testament to the hard work of our distributors and the patience, creativity and tenacity of the retailers and customers that shop at FLGS. We know how disruptive a release date change is to an OP program. We know that release date changes ruins schedules, planning and participation. We appreciate the effort to work with us while we cope with changes outside of our control.

So why were the release dates impacted?

1: Weather: As I’m sure you recall, last winter was one of the worst winters in recent history. The weather had a tremendous impact on our shipping & warehousing infrastructure. We had numerous logistics issues and closures caused by inclement weather. Obviously, all this wreaks havoc on a release-date driven system.

2: Customs: In an attempt to curb counterfeit product, the U.S. Customs office increased their screening of containers filled with games and toys, especially those with licensed products. Over the past six months, we’ve had an unusually high number of containers pulled for routine inspection. Even if we pass through these inspections with no issues, the entire container may be detained for up to four weeks.   The issue here is that the last containers are usually coming in one to two weeks before release and, if they are detained, it usually creates an automatic delay. The complexity comes from the fact that you don’t know for how long the container is going to be held. You literally have to check on the items everyday. So when a container is pulled for inspection, it could take one day or it could take 21 days. This makes announcing a delay very challenging. Do you announce a delay on a container that might clear in one day, only to have to announce a false alarm? Do you wait until you have better information and can estimate a release date? We opt for the latter, as it allows a store to reset their event and communicate complete information and eliminates the ‘false alarm’ issue. We have hundreds of containers delivering each year. Announcing potential delays for every routine inspection is not feasible.

Thank you for your continued support and patience. We’re floored by the response so far and we’re doing everything within our power to get product into your hands in a timely fashion.

Have a great weekend,
Justin

Marvel HeroClix: X-Men - Days of Future Past Preview

Marvel HeroClix X-Men – Days of Future Past: Franklin Richards and Rachel Summers!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we bring you another preview from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: X-Men – Days of Future Past. Today we have a couple of young lovers doomed by a dark future where mutants are hunted and incarcerated.  We begin today’s preview with Franklin Richards!

007-franklin-richards

Franklin Richards, the son of Sue and Reed Richards, was the betrothed of Rachel Summers in Earth-811 and died at the hands of the Sentinels.

Franklin Richards is 64 points, a single target 4 range, and is really inexpensive for the support he brings to the tabletop. All of his movement clicks have Stealth, which is great for support pieces. You can keep him hidden from opposing characters and hide friendly characters behind him. He also has Barrier on his top 3 clicks on his 5 click dial. Barrier is great for protection for him and his companions, but when used as part of strategy it can shine! Throw up a Barrier to help a friendly character pull off a single target Pulse Wave, or place it around an opposing character to prevent them moving or attacking until your next turn. Make sure you Outwit the Flight on that character before you block him in!

Franklin Richards has the special power Sentinel Survivor on his top two clicks. It states Franklin Richards can use Empower, Enhancement and Support. When Franklin Richards has less than 2 action tokens, adjacent friendly characters’ powers can’t be countered and their combat values can’t be modified by opposing characters. If you push Franklin Richards he will take pushing damage, so with his special power you have extra incentive to allow him to rest so that adjacent friendlies won’t get Outwitted.

On click 3, Franklin Richards trades Sentinel Survivor with Probability Control and gains Psychic Blast on clicks 4 both for the rest of their dial. His defense alternates between a 17 and 16 defense for his whole dial, but he can get an extra boost from his trait Married Duo. It says when Franklin Richards is adjacent to a friendly character named Rachel Summers, modify both characters’ defense values by +1 if not already modified by this effect. He also has the X-Men and Fantastic Four team abilities so he can heal up and in turn, heal other characters up with his special power. Next up…

010-rachel-summers

Rachel Summers became a “Hound” after the Mutant Registration Act drafted by Senator Robert Kelly.   AHound is a mutant that tracks down other mutants. Rachel was psychically linked to her victims however and after feeling all of their despair fought against her captors and was in turn sent to the mutant concentration camps. This is where she met Franklin Richards.

Rachel Summers is an equally inexpensive 76 points and she possesses the Flight symbol, the X-Men team ability, and a single target 7 range. She also has a trait called trait Married Duo. It says when Rachel Summers is adjacent to a friendly character named Franklin Richards, modify both characters’ attack values by +1 if not already modified by this effect. With the Flight symbol, she can taxi Franklin Richards around and allow them to boost each other’s stats.

Rachel’s dial is simple and utilitarian. She starts her top 2 clicks with identical powers, Running Shot, Telekinesis, and Willpower. She starts with a 6 movement, so if she is carrying a character, her movement at most will be 4. On click 3 she loses Willpower and trades Telekinesis for Psychic Blast for clicks 3 – 5. On clicks 4 and 5 she gets Energy Shield/Deflection so with her boost with Franklin Richards’ Married Duo trait, she could potentially have a +3 bonus to defense!

Rachel and Franklin,at their combined 140 points, make an effective team. His Enhancement or Empower can add to her damage, and each other’s traits adding one to defense and damage need to be remembered when the dice are rolling. In addition, the ability to heal each other with team abilities, and Franklin’s support can keep them in the battle for the win. They both possess the Days of Future Past and Future keywords. In addition Franklin Richards has Fantastic Four and Scientist Rachel Summers has X-Men.
