Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Secret Warriors Team Building

Greetings, HeroClix fans, and welcome to a deeper look into a team building exercise featuring a keyword that has been bolstered with the Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. release by filling out some notably absent team members – the Secret Warriors!

 Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Druid

For the Secret Warriors, we assembled a team featuring the most glaring absentee from their initial appearance in the Captain America set – the mystical son of Doctor Druid, Druid! Druid is a 100 point ranged attacker, and possesses both the Mystics and S.H.I.E.L.D. team abilities. He’s also got some significantly nasty powers for someone once thought to be the weak link of the Secret Warriors, including Stealth, Penetrating/Psychic Blast, Pulse Wave, Barrier, and Perplex. With that, however, come two significant special powers – the first, appearing on clicks 3-5 of his attack is called Magic Bullet. This power allows Druid to be given a free action, permitting him to choose an adjacent friendly character. That character can use Penetrating/Psychic Blast and Improved Targeting – Ignores and Destroys Blocking Terrain Along Line of Fire. He also has a special power called I’m Not a Liability! which appears on the first three clicks of his damage. This power states that when Druid is adjacent to a friendly character with the S.H.I.E.L.D. keyword, he can use Enhancement. In addition, if he’s adjacent to a friendly character with the Secret Warriors keyword, he can use Empower.

 Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- Quake

Paired with Druid are two characters that take advantage of his I’m Not a Liability! power by having both the Secret Warriors and S.H.I.E.L.D. keywords. First, making her debut appearance since the original Captain America set is Quake. Daisy has received some significant upgrades since her first appearance – her damage, range, movement, defense, and attack values have all increased on average, and she takes advantage of Precision Strike over the opening four clicks of her dial, a power which didn’t exist in her first iteration. She also comes loaded with Stealth, Incapacitate, Leadership, and Perplex, amongst others. Finally, she has two traits, the first of which takes advantage of this team having all members possessing the S.H.I.E.L.D. keyword. Called Changing the World: From the Shadows, this trait states that opposing characters adjacent to two or more friendly characters with the S.H.I.E.L.D. keyword can’t use Willpower or Quake. Secondly is her trait called But, You Can Call Me “Agent Johnson”. This trait grants Quake the use of Quake, and shows another significant upgrade from her first figure – she may now use Quake as if she occupied a square within 3 squares and line of fire.

 Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- John Garrett

Our final team member is John Garrett, the cybernetic field agent with a grudge against Elektra. John is an Indomitable Swiss army knife – he works well from range or up close, and has powers like Running Shot, Charge, Blades/Claws/Fangs, Toughness, Regeneration, Exploit Weakness, and Outwit to increase his versatility. Alongside his standard powers is a special called Collateral Damage which appears on his attack. This power states that John Garrett can use Energy Explosion, and when he does while targeting the highest-point opposing character, and that character is adjacent to at least one other character, all damage dealt by that attack is penetrating damage. With those powers, he also has a trait called Changing the World: Recon Op which states that opposing characters adjacent to two or more friendly characters with the S.H.I.E.L.D. keyword can’t use Willpower or Combat Reflexes.

Together, those three characters come up to 260 points, so we added the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division Additional Team Ability to the mix for 9 total points. That ATA states that when a friendly character equipped with this team ability uses Outwit, Perplex, or Probability Control, modify it’s range value and the minimum range value for the power by +1 for each other friendly character using this team ability. And, to get you to 299 points, we felt that adding the Avengers Round Table to your force with five ID cards of your choice would help balance the scales nicely.
