DC HeroClix: Batman and His Greatest Foes Fast Forces Part I

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we are continuing the previews for the upcoming DC HeroClix: The Joker’s Wild! set, by looking at the some of the villainous figures in the Batman and His Greatest Foes Fast Forces Pack.  Starting off with a riddle, what figure costs 50 points, has a five click dial, and a trait that grants the use of Shape Change?  You don’t have to be the world’s greatest detective to deduce that it’s The Riddler!

DC HeroClix: The Joker's Wild!- Fast Forces Part I - The Riddler

In addition to his economical point cost and Riddle Me This trait, The Riddler has several other potent powers and abilities to properly vex any caped do-gooder.  He starts with a special power on damage called Riddle Me That, which gives him a chance to lower an opponent’s attack roll or damage dealt when he is attacked.  When attacked, choose a number from 1-6 and if it shows up on one of the dice, reduce the attack total by 2, if the number shows up on both dice, then also decrease the damage by 2.  On top of those traits, he also has Super Senses.  With that much potential for evasion, your opponent might just think they can avoid him completely, but The Riddler has enough clever quips and tricks to ensure he cannot be ignored. He has Leap/Climb, which will get him into whatever position you need him in to make use of his 6 range value, accompanied by Precision Strike and late dial Perplex.  Take advantage of his teammates with Arkham Asylum and Gotham City keywords and his combat value-sharing Batman Enemy team ability.  This will be useful in Gotham City, where you need political connections if you want to stay out of Blackgate Prison, and nobody is more connected than our next figure from the Fast Forces Pack, The Penguin!

DC HeroClix: The Joker's Wild!- Fast Forces Part I - The Penguin

At 25 points, The Penguin lives almost entirely from his trait, Dealmaker.  At the beginning of the game you place a Loyalty token on another friendly character’s card, modifying their range and attack values by +1.  Any character adjacent to The Penguin can be given a free action to make a close attack targeting The Penguin, and if it hits you, place the Loyalty token on a character’s card of the attacker’s choice instead of dealing damage.  Use your influence wisely; have someone give The Penguin a nudge with their elbow and move the Loyalty token to someone you have poised to attack to get the bonus.  Beware though, any character can take the free action from Dealmaker; even opposing characters, so be careful not to let the opponent steal your influence!  To that end, The Penguin has Force Blast to keep the opposition beyond arm’s length and gets a little tougher to deal with if he takes a small hit, starting with Willpower and going on to Combat Reflexes with a late finish of Close Combat Expert.  Not one for the loony bin, The Penguin has Gotham City, Gotham City Underworld, and Politician keywords along with a strong potential to benefit from the Batman Enemy team ability.  If these two classic Batman villains don’t leave your opponent cold then this next character will, Mr. Freeze!

DC HeroClix: The Joker's Wild!- Fast Forces Part I- Mr. Freeze

For a hearty 100 points, Mr. Freeze brings some much needed ranged attack and board control options for his teammates.  With 6 range and two targets, Running Shot and Willpower, Mr. Freeze can make the most of his Freeze Ray special attack power, which deals out Frozen tokens to any hit targets in addition to doing normal damage.  If a character has a Frozen token, they must remove it instead of their action tokens when they would normally clear tokens.  Locking down an opponent with this should give you plenty of time to lay out all your best (worst?) ice puns.  He picks up some Range Combat Expert if you find a single target in particular that needs to chill out.  If things heat up and Mr. Freeze takes some damage, you can put up some ice Barriers and Sidestep to make your escape.  In addition to the Arkham Asylum and Gotham City keywords, he also has Armor and Scientist.  Don’t forget the Batman Enemy team ability which can help make that Freeze Ray special power scary, even to his last click.

That’s all for today, HeroClix fans! Stay tuned as we continue to preview the DC HeroClix: The Joker’s Wild! set. Next week we’ll discover the rest of the Batman and His Greatest Foes Fast Forces and build a team of villains that will tickle Batman’s funny bone.  Don’t forget to visit the WizKids Info Network to find HeroClix Pre-Release Events and tournaments near you.

Until next time, don’t put your dice on ice!

TMNT HeroClix: Heroes In A Half Shell Fast Forces Part 1

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Welcome back for another exciting preview for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles HeroClixHeroes in a Half Shell set!  The Fast Forces Pack joins the second TMNT HeroClix Gravity Feed  set adding more than 30 characters from the 32-years of TMNT history, based on both the comics and animated TV series.  The first three characters we are going to look at in this Fast Forces Pack represent the turtles and their allies from the original 1987 cartoon show. Introducing Leonardo, Raphael, and Casey Jones.

Each of the turtles in this pack come in at 75 points, share the TMNT, TMNT Ally, Animal, and Martial Artist keywords and have a few other features that make the Shredder’s head spin.  Even though they are mutated into human size, they are still turtles and are most at home near water, which is evident by their Aquatic movement symbol that lets them get around the sewers unencumbered.  They all start off with similar defense powers; Invulnerability moving into Toughness.  The last shared feature is the trait “’Clang’?  Did You Say ‘Clang’?” that modifies their attack value by +1 when attacking only characters 75 points or less, and modifies their damage values by +1 when attacking only characters with the Robot keyword.  That covers their basic ninja training skills; let’s get into their individual fighting styles.

TMNT HeroClix: Heroes In A Half Shell Fast Forces - Leonardo

Starting us off is the team leader, Leonardo.  Leonardo keeps on the move with a mix of Charge and Sidestep to keep chasing the Foot Clan goons and their lackeys.  In addition to late dial Blades/Claws/Fangs, representing his skills with dual katana blades, Leo adds a special attack power to his close combat repertoire, the Two-Toed Kick. This special power that lets him use Force Blast as a free action after hitting a single character with a close attack and gives that character an action token, if they don’t already have one.  On damage, he shows his practical leadership chops as he Empowers his brothers in shells to hit harder.

TMNT HeroClix: Heroes In A Half Shell Fast Forces - Raphael

When Leonardo’s cool head doesn’t prevail, Raphael gets mad and gets even!  Starting off with Sidestep and finishing a little more motivated with Charge and Close Combat Expert, Raphael’s dial is also bookended by a special attack power.  Break Open A Fire Hydrant lets him use Incapacitate with a range value of 4 and, after actions resolve, any hit characters are knocked back a number of squares equal to the number of actions they have.  Like Leonardo, he also has Combat Reflexes to let the soft close attacks bounce off his shell.

TMNT HeroClix: Heroes In A Half Shell Fast Forces - Casey Jones

One of the turtle’s closest human allies, Casey Jones, brings the wild world of sports to your table along with a healthy contempt for the referee.  His trait Rules Are For Suckers states that Casey’s actions do not count against your action total.  This is especially convenient considering his theme-friendly keywords, TMNT Ally and Martial Artist, and his almost-free-agent-status point cost of 50.  Offensively Casey is an all-star but he understands that every championship team has to work together.  He gets into the game with Charge and Toughness and lends an assist to his teammates with Empower.  He stays in the game with Flurry, Combat Reflexes, and trades his 5 range value in for protection from Mind Control, Incapacitate, and being confused by Shape Change with Battle Fury.  Although on a team with the Turtles, you may want to keep him off of his Battle Fury clicks as he may be the only ranged attacker you have that is able to shoot pucks and lob baseballs at the bad guys from 5 squares away.

That’s all for today, HeroClix fans! Stay with us as we finish up previewing the Fast Forces and more figures from the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles HeroClixHeroes in a Half Shell set!

Until next time, give ‘em shell!

DC HeroClix: World’s Finest Fast Forces Pack Part 1

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

We hope you had an opportunity to head over to your local shop and participate in our DC Comics HeroClix: World’s Finest Pre-Release events to get a sneak peek at some of the characters available in the set.  To keep the excitement flowing, we are pleased to show you some of the characters contained in the DC Comics HeroClix: World’s Finest Fast Forces Pack!  First up is the Man of Steel himself, Superman!

DC Comics HeroClix: World’s Finest Fast Forces Pack Superman

Superman has the Wing speed symbol, which lets him use the Flight and Carry abilities, along with the standard attack, defense and damage combat symbols.  He also can shoot a single target from up to seven squares away.  Superman has the Superman Ally team ability, which lets him treat hindering terrain as clear terrain for movement and line of fire purposes.  As for point values, Superman has the flexibility to be played at either 150 or 100 points, with his 100-point starting line coming in at click 4.

If you’re interested in playing Superman as part of a themed team, he has four keywords to help you choose the rest of your force:  Batman Family, Gotham City, Kryptonian and MetropolisSuperman also has a trait, World’s Finest Heroes, which lets him use Probability Control if he’s adjacent to a friendly character named Batman.  However, Superman can only use Probability Control to reroll an opposing character’s attack roll.

Taking a closer look at Superman’s dial, we see that his powers are laid out for him to run in, hit hard, and take as well as he gives.  Superman starts with Charge, an attack value of 11, a damage value of 4, and a defense value of 18 with a special defense power World’s Toughest which grants him use Invincible and Willpower.  He switches from Charge to Hypersonic Speed on his next two clicks, while still retaining the 11 attack values and World’s Toughest.  On click 4, Superman regains Charge and also adds Close Combat Expert to his arsenal.  Hypersonic Speed returns on his next two clicks but World’s Toughest is replaced by Toughness for the remainder of his dial.  Finally, Sidestep appears on Superman’s last two clicks in place of Hypersonic Speed.

Superman definitely has what it takes to be your force’s primary attacker, thanks to his steady set of combat values and layout of powers.  But there’s always brains behind the brawn, and who better to follow Superman than Lex Luthor?

DC Comics HeroClix: World’s Finest Fast Forces Pack Lex Luthor

In the DC Comics HeroClix: World’s Finest Fast Forces Pack, Lex Luthor comes in at 50 points and has the standard combat symbols for speed, attack, defense and damage with a 4 range and single target.  He shares the Metropolis keyword with Superman as well as the Celebrity, Politician and Ruler keywords.  Lex Luthor also has the Police team ability to help bring down the defense values of opposing characters for friendly teammates that are making ranged attacks.

Stealth appears on each of Lex Luthor’s four clicks.  Outwit appears on his last click.  The rest of Lex Luthor’s dial is highlighted by a pair of special powers.  The first is President Luthor, For Now, which lets Lex Luthor use Mastermind as if he was 150 points.  It’s a great special power that helps Lex Luthor stay in the game longer by letting him transfer damage to Superman at either of the Man of Steel’s point values.  The second special power is I’ve Got Files on Everyone, which lets Lex Luthor use Leadership as if he was 150 points.  It also lets him use Outwit.  When Lex Luthor uses Leadership, friendly characters within eight squares can use Sidestep and modify their attack values by +1 this turn.  If you’re playing Lex Luthor with Superman, a successful roll for Leadership could potentially remove an action token from Superman, and then let him use Sidestep right before attacking via Charge or Hypersonic Speed.  Oh, and don’t forget Superman would gain a +1 to his attack value that turn!

Lex Luthor is definitely meant to pull the strings behind the scene by buffing up your main attacker through I’ve Got Files on Everyone or protecting himself with President Luthor, For Now.  But Lex Luthor isn’t the only support character in this Fast Forces Pack, as teenager Hiro Okamura (aka Toymaster) offers his help to the World’s Finest heroes!

DC Comics HeroClix: World’s Finest Fast Forces Pack Toymaster

Like Lex Luthor, Toymaster comes in at 50 points and has all the standard combat symbols and 4 range with single target.  Toymaster doesn’t have a printed team ability on his dial but his trait, Hero Worship, makes him a wild card who can only copy team abilities from friendly characters of 100 points or more.  Toymaster’s four-click dial starts with two clicks of Sidestep to get him into position to use TelekinesisEnergy Shield/Deflection appears on each of his four clicks to give him some protection against ranged attacks.  In Toymaster’s damage slot he alternates between a special power called Working Out the Variables and PerplexWorking Out the Variables lets Toymaster use Probability Control, but only to reroll a friendly character’s attack roll.  Stealth appears on Toymaster’s last two clicks.

Toymaster, like Lex Luthor, is meant to be used in support of your attackers.  Toymaster’s Hero Worship trait lets him copy team abilities to fit his current situation while his opening two clicks of Telekinesis let him move characters and objects where they’re needed.  Finally, Working Out the Variables and Perplex make Toymaster a nuisance for opposing characters.

DC HeroClix: Justice League Trinity War: Crime Syndicate Fast Forces Pack Pt 1!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Welcome back as we take a look at the DC Heroclix: Justice League Trinity War Crime Syndicate Fast Forces pack.  First up, the most powerful member Ultraman!

ultraman

#001 Ultraman possesses an Improved Targeting ability called Ultra-Vision allowing him to ignore hindering terrain for line of fire purposes.  He also has a trait called Syndicate Rules, that says when he is part of a Crime Syndicate theme team you may add one use of theme team Probability Control to your pool when your opponent uses theme team Probability Control.

Ultraman has a 7 range with 1 target, the Flight ability, and the Indomitable combat ability.  At 250 points, Ultraman begins play with a couple clicks of Hypersonic Speed.  He will have Precision Strike alternating on and off over half his dial.  On the first two clicks with Precision Strike, he has a special power calked Ruler of His Earth, allowing him to use Impervious and Mastermind.  Additionally, when he rolls a 4 for Impervious he reduces damage dealt by 3.  On alternating clicks he has Invulnerability.  On clicks 3 and 4, he has.

Click 5 sees his 150 point start line.  As before, Ultraman starts with Hypersonic Speed, Precision Strike and his Ruler of the Earth defensive special power.  The next click sees the return of Charge and Invulnerability.  After this, Ultraman spends a couple clicks changing between Sidestep with Combat Reflexes and Charge with Toughness.

On his last click, Ultraman has Earthbound/ Neutralized, countering his Flight and Indomitable abilities, Toughness  and a new special power called Secret Kryptonite Recharge.  This power says that when this click is revealed due to damage taken from an opposing figure, stop turning the dial.  Ultraman may be given a free action to destroy an unheld object within 4 squares to use Regeneration as a free action.

Ultraman possesses the Brute, Crime Syndicate, and Ruler keywords.

Next up we’ll take a look at the woman he has claimed as his own, though she has her own opinion on the matter, #003 Superwoman!

superwoman

Superwoman has a trait called Choose Your Loyalty: Ultraman or Owlman?  This trait tells you to pick Ultraman or Owlman at the beginning of the game.  If you choose Ultraman, any friendly Ultraman and Superwoman can use Super Strength.  If you choose Owlman, he modifies his defense by +1, and Superwoman can use Combat Reflexes.

Starting on her 150 point line, Superwoman takes the fight to your opponent with a couple of clicks of ChargeInvulnerability will provide her damage reduction on these clicks.  She also has a special power on these clicks called Lasso of Inhabitations Released.  This power reads “When Superwoman hits a character with a close combat attack, place an Unfettered Inhibitions token on that character’s card if it doesn’t have one already. Characters with an Unfettered Inhibitions token on their card can’t ignore pushing damage and can’t be targeted by a friendly character’s Perplex. A character with an Unfettered Inhibition token on its card may be given a double power action to remove the token.“  On click #2, Superwoman has a click of Close Combat Expert.  Her next click sees the addition of Flurry, with Toughness to reduce damage.

Click #4 is Superwoman’s 100 point starting line, and it starts as before with Charge, Invulnerability and her L Lasso of Inhabitations Released  special power.  She also has Close Combat Expert on this click.  On her next click she goes back to Flurry with Toughness to protect her for a couple of clicks.   On her last click of this section, Superwoman regains Close Combat Expert for a couple of clicks.  She also has Quake on these clicks.  On her last click, Superwoman may be able to heal back up to her 100 point starting line with Regeneration.

Superwoman can be played in theme using her Amazon and Crime Syndicate keywords.

So we’ve seen the Ultraman figure from this fast forces pack that Superwoman’s trait can effect, let’s see the other man she manipulates, Owlman!

owlman

Owlman has a trait called All My Father’s Men Belong to Me.  This trait allows Owlman to use Stealth and, when building your force, friendly characters with the Gotham City or Police keyword also have the Gotham City Underworld keyword.  He also has an Improved Targeting ability that lets him ignore hindering and an Improved Movement ability that ignores hindering and elevated terrain called I Own the Night.

On his 150 point starting line, Owlman starts with a special power called Into The Shadows, which lets him use Charge, and lets you give him a free action to place him in a square of hindering terrain within 4 squares and line of fire.  He also has a defensive special power called All Crime Profits Me in the End.  This power lets Owlman use Mastermind and Toughness, and when he uses Mastermind.   Over his first three clicks, Exploit Weakness will swap with Outwit.  On his third click, he gains a click of Sidestep.

Click #4 is Owlman’s 100 point starting line.  He starts with the same special powers in his movement and defense slots, and now he has another in his damage slot called Secretly *I* Run the World, allowing him to use Empower, Enhancement, and Outwit.  Next up on his dial is a click of Sidestep and Combat Reflexes.  On his last two clicks Owlman has Flurry and Precision Strike, as well as Outwit an Exploit Weakness.

Owlman has the Crime Syndicate and Gotham City Underworld keywords.

That’s all we have for now.  Be sure to check back soon as we show off the other figures in the upcoming DC Heroclix: Justice League Trinity War Crime Syndicate Fast Forces pack.
