Greeting Heroclix Fans!
Today we have a review of 3 vehicles from the recently released Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. set and some suggestion of pilots that can really add some vroom to the zoom! Each of the vehicles has a trait that allows you to keep a team themed as long as it has the character listed. We’ll showcase a few ideas for those potential pilots as well.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. Space Rig is an incredible point bargain at 25 points. It has the Flight symbol, and a full dial of Sidestep and Energy Shield/Deflection. Its speed and damage values are consistent through the whole dial as well, and late dial Precision Strike in the suit will help with the final showdown to victory!
The #001 Nick Fury from the Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. set brings Precision Strike as well, so with the rig’s pilot attack, it could have access to that power top dial, or with Nick 2 clicks in, Penetrating/Psychic Blast. Take that Hydra! This Nick Fury can also use the 25-point Life Model Decoy trait to utilize even more pilots. The one drawback about this one-eyed guy is his 5 range. Sure your team will most likely have other S.H.I.E.L.D. characters with the team ability to match, but if a Nick with range is what you want, try the super rare eyeball toting one from the same set!
The #056 Nick Fury can only offer better combat values top click. He can “use” Probability Control as part of his special power, but not while piloting the Space Rig, as the vehicle rules state that the powers that can be used for pilot attacks must be standard powers. However, his second click has an 11 attack with Precision Strike and 3 damage with Perplex, so choose one or the other, because you can’t use both. Where Nick shines though is his 9 range. Put a few S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives with the correct team ability and you’re looking at up to a 12 range and depending on how many actions you have, 6 damage!
The 30-point Captain America’s Motorcycle may have missed its calling to be a daredevil stunt bike but it has a higher purpose, to take the Captain into battle! The trait Jump It! allows the bike to ignore elevated terrain on movement and if it crosses at least one edge of elevated terrain, adjacent opposing characters modify their defense value by -1 for the rest of the turn. With 4 of its 5 clicks possessing Charge, this is the trait you want to utilize; it benefits your entire team. It has a special power to use the Ram ability as well, and use it if it makes more sense, but the likelihood of being able to use it and decrease defensive values are quite a bit more slim.
Captain America #049 from the Marvel Heroclix: Avengers Assemble set is 75 points and brings a power that really enhances the motorcycle, Exploit Weakness! Add in his 6-range and now the bike has some attack options, simple, inexpensive, and effective. You could use him at his 150-point cost, but what you get is a 12 attack and Precision Strike, just really not enough of a bonus for double the cost. In fact, you could pay less and get almost the same with a different Cap.
Captain America #049 from the Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. set has an 11 attack, 3 damage, and Precision Strike as well for 130 points. Other benefits? How about the Pigeon and Redwing bystander tokens you place in your starting area at the beginning of the game? Redwing is a great Tiny size attacker, with Charge and Precision Strike, and the Pigeons are awesome tie up pieces that are sure to annoy your opponent. If you are trying to keep it themed, there are Modern Age characters with the Avengers and/or the S.H.I.E.L.D. keywords that will fit nicely with them on a team.
Last up, we come to the Avengers Sky-Cycle. The highest point cost of all three of these vehicles, but it does give you the sky. Six clicks, the dial is very consistent, and the potential damage output is really good. Of course its actual attack and damage values are zero through the entire dial, but that’s ok, Hawkeye is going to take care of that. What you get is top dial Running Shot, and a special power that allows you to add +2 to your attack value when making an attack. There is a 1 out of 6 chance that your pilot and passenger will take 2 unavoidable damage when using that power, but as Hawkeye would say, “What’s life without a little risk?” And yes, this vehicle can carry one passenger out onto the map, and perhaps will make use of the Sky-Cycle’s late dial Enhancement.
The 75-point Hawkeye #106 from the Marvel Heroclix: Avengers – Age of Ultron Starter Set will deliver. His 8 range coupled with the Avengers Sky-Cycle’s Running Shot with a 10 movement is able to reach far across the map. His top click Penetrating/Psychic Blast is going to cause damage, 3 in fact. But when it has to rest and clear, if you have adjacent characters, they can use Hawkeye’s Enhancement as a little extra gift for the opponents welcoming party.
Last is Hawkeye #002 from the Marvel Heroclix: Avengers Assemble set. He’s 85 points, a Sharpshooter, and brings Energy Explosion to the proverbial table. He has the Thunderbolts keyword so you can create a Thunderbolts theme team, add the Avengers Sky-Cycle to a Thunderbolts team without breaking theme!
Thanks for reading and if you can, add one of these lower cost vehicles to your team, kick the tires, and take it for a spin!
