Marvel HeroClix: “Generics” Team Building

Greeting HeroClix Fans!

Today we have another team building article, this time building with lower point support pieces. Some people also refer to them as “generics.” We’ll be taking some S.H.I.E.L.D. figures from the recently released Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. set and making a 300 point team. We’ll showcase the individual characters first then show options on how to use them together as a team. Let’s start with the lead figure, AOU011 Monica Chang from the Age of Ultron set.

Marvel HeroClix: Age of Ultron- Monica Chang

Monica Chang is the highest point character on this team. At 65 points she brings in great offensive and support powers. Top clicks of Penetrating/Psychic Blast pierce through damage reducers. She has a special power granting use of Perplex as well as Enhancement giving an extra damage boost to her teammates. Her top clicks of Stealth coupled with Combat Reflex will prevent her from getting hit.

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- S.H.I.E.L.D. Elite Agent

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Elite Agent, at 45 points, also starts with a top click of Penetrating/Psychic Blast and can swing into action with Running Shot too! All of the S.H.I.E.L.D. support pieces have the trait RALLY. Whenever S.H.I.E.L.D. Elite Agent hits one or more opposing characters, add one action to your action total this turn. With 7 characters on the team, this can really prove useful for extra attacks or repositioning!

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- S.H.I.E.L.D. Bodyguard

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Bodyguard for 35 points, is one of the most important characters on the team. Sidestep for repositioning, Defend for a boost to character defenses, Support to bring back team members to their top click, and the S.H.I.E.L.D. team ability for range and potential damage boost as well.

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- S.H.I.E.L.D. Paranormal Investigator

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Paranormal Investigator’s (2 of them for 40 points each) can use Stealth and coupled with Monica Chang can make a Stealth wall to prevent ranged attacks against your team. Willpower lets them push to attack, reposition, or use the S.H.I.E.L.D. team ability with a power action for extra damage without taking damage for it. Their 5 range will go to 8 with adjacent characters for use with his Outwit or later Probability Control.

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- S.H.I.E.L.D. Cyborg

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Cyborg at 40 points is here for close combat needs. In a team that is mostly based with ranged attacks, you need a heavy hitter. Top clicks of Leap/Climb, Super Strength, Toughness, and Empower can give pause to your opponent from basing your team.  Make sure you include objects for his attacks. His final 2 clicks have Sidestep, Combat Reflexes, and Close Combat Expert.

Marvel HeroClix: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- S.H.I.E.L.D. Infiltrator

Last, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Infiltrator at a 35 point cost starts with Stealth, Poison, and Shape Change. With two top click Outwit characters, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Infiltrator will also help keep opposing forces away with the fear of Poison damage.

With a theme team containing seven figures, map choice roll will most likely favor you. This team doesn’t have a lot of mobility, they need to move out onto the map and movement order can matter. If map choice included some hindering terrain, start your movements with Monica Chang, a S.H.I.E.L.D. Paranormal Investigator, and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Bodyguard. You are going to want to push the S.H.I.E.L.D. Bodyguard to his second click for his 18 Defend on the second turn. Bring forward the second S.H.I.E.L.D. Paranormal Investigator and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Elite Agent. Hide the others behind the Stealth wall. Bring up the final characters on turn 3 and be ready to attack as well because your opponent is positioning as well.

The strategy for attacking is to pile on the damage when you can. Use Monica Chang’s Enhancement coupled with other characters  giving a power action for the S.H.I.E.L.D. team ability  +1 to damage. Use the S.H.I.E.L.D. Paranormal Investigator’s Outwit to take out opponents Charge, or Improved Targeting to protect the team from retaliation. If your opponent’s team is utilizing Stealth to prevent attacks as well, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Paranormal Investigator can base an opponent, and be given a free action to prevent use of Stealth and Shape Change as wellAs individual characters, they are not powerful, but as a team they can take down large figures quickly! Whenever you hit with one of the characters with the Rally trait remember to add an extra action to your total. This team has the potential to out action your opponent most turns.
