Greetings HeroClix Fans!
Today we have another exciting preview from the Yu-Gi-Oh! HeroClix: Series One set coming to a retailer near you this April. Today we bring you the preview of Gaia the Dragon Champion, let’s take a closer look!
Gaia the Dragon Champion has the Fusion trait that says when a listed character is adjacent to all other listed characters and hits an opposing character, after actions resolve it may be given a free action to replace these characters with Gaia the Dragon Champion from your sideline. When Gaia the Dragon Champion enters the game in this way, he starts the same number of clicks from his starting line as the character given the action and modifies his combat values by +1. This trait is active even when this character is not on the map. The characters are Gaia the Fierce Knight and Curse of Dragon. (There is also a great synopsis of the Fusion trait in the preview article for Gate Guardian.)
Gaia the Dragon Champion is a lofty 225 points, but he has the stats that make him worth the points. He possesses the Transporter Flight, Duo Attack, and Indomitable combat abilities. There are only 2 other characters in HeroClix with the same combat abilities, and Gaia the Dragon Champion is the least expensive point wise of all of them. He has a single target range of 2 which could come in handy using the Duo Attack ability if you KO an opponent’s character and have no other based with Gaia the Dragon Champion.
Gaia the Dragon Champion starts with the special movement power Double Dragon Lance which states Gaia the Dragon Champion can use Charge and Flurry. When Gaia the Dragon Champion uses the Move and Attack ability, he can use Flurry instead of a close combat attack. This is similar to Gaia the Fierce Knight’s trait Spiral Shaver.
He has a special attack power for his first 2 clicks called Destroy the Flotation Ring! that says when Gaia the Dragon Champion hits a character with the Flight or Transporter Flight symbol, that character has the Foot Speed symbol for the rest of the game, even if this power is lost. Let’s just look at these 2 powers together. He can use Flurry and if he hits 2 different characters when he does, they will gain the Foot Speed symbol for the rest of the game! He doesn’t even have to do damage, just hit!
Defensively, Gaia the Dragon Champion starts with 2 clicks of Impervious and alternates between Impervious and Invulnerability throughout his dial. Attack wise, he transitions to Precision Strike, Quake, and back to his special attack power, Destroy the Flotation Ring! His last 2 clicks have Exploit Weakness. He has the keywords “Yugi Muto,” Warrior, and Wind.
Thanks for reading and be sure to come back next week because you’ll want to be “gobblin” up the next Yu-Gi-Oh! HeroClix: Series One set preview!
