Galactic Guardians Heroclix Preview

Tougher Than The Coliseum

Greetings HeroClix fans!

Today we take a look back at 2011 and look forward to 2012 by spotlighting a character who has gone toe-to-toe alone and beaten the heaviest hitters of the Fantastic Four and X-Men! Please welcome the leader of the Shi’ar Empire’s Imperial Guard, Gladiator!

Gladiator begins play with a trait, My Confidence is My Strength, which allows him to place a Confidence token on his character card each time an opposing character takes damage from his attacks! As a free action, Gladiator can remove any number of Confidence tokens from his character; he can then use Perplex, targeting himself, for each token that was removed.

As the leader, or praetor, of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard, Gladiator prefers to lead his group in battle. This is displayed on Gladiator’s dial via Hypersonic Speed and Leadership on his first two clicks! Like others of his alien race, Gladiator also possesses extraordinary levels of strength and durability, which are represented by Super Strength and Impervious on those initial clicks.

However, Gladiator’s abilities are tied to his confidence level. If Gladiator wavers in his purpose, his power levels begin to dip as well. Once Gladiator is off his first two clicks, Hypersonic Speed is replaced on his next two clicks by Running Shot and he loses Super Strength! He also switches tactics and trades Leadership for Ranged Combat Expert. Defensively, he gains Invulnerability.

At the halfway point of Gladiator’s dial, he takes the fight into close quarters by using Charge and Quake for his next two clicks! He also gains Exploit Weakness to help him bypass damage-reducing powers on opposing characters. Toughness replaces Invulnerability as his defensive power.

On his last two clicks, Gladiator can recoup his powers thanks to Regeneration on his defensive slots! Leap/Climb allows the loyal Imperial Guardsman to retreat to fight another day or regroup for a final attack! To aid him with the latter goal, Gladiator switches from Exploit Weakness to Close Combat Expert to dish out extra damage in melee!

Clocking in at 195 points and with a range of 5, Gladiator makes a great addition to many teams, particularly those which utilize the Annihilators, Cosmic, Shi’ar, Ruler, and Soldier keywords!
