Marvel HeroClix The Invincible Iron Man: The Mandarin!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Welcome to the files of Stark Industries as we begin our look at figures from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: The Invincible Iron Man set.  The Mandarin, an archenemy of Iron Man and one of Marvel Comics‘ most powerful super-villains!

030-Mandarin

When building your force you are allowed to use the Mandarin’s trait called Rings of the Mandarin.  This allows Mandarin to be assigned one or two different relics with the MV20 Ironman set symbol-01 set symbol by paying their point cost.  If he does, your force may not contain a resource or other objects.  Each time Mandarin takes damage from an opponent’s attack, place a Ring token on his character card.  Give Mandarin a power action, remove a Ring token from his character card, and you may assign a relic to him with the  MV20 Ironman set symbol-01 set symbol if that relic is not already on your force.

Aside from the powers and abilities that might be granted to Mandarin through the use of his rings, he does have a fairly resourceful dial.  Mandarin possesses theWing symbol-01 with a starting speed of 9.  He can use Running Shot with a range of 8 squares and two targets.  Mandarin’s 11 attack value should make it easy to land a successful hit for 3 damage, especially after using Outwit to counter your opponent’s defensive power.  Mandarin has Toughness for defense and on click 2 his attack value may go down by 1 but his defensive value goes up by 1.  Seems like a fair trade.

On click 3 Mandarin shows that he is a karate master.  Mandarin can use Charge and Combat Reflexes and a special power called Lethal Karate Blow. This allows Mandarin to modify his damage value by +2 when he makes a successful close combat attack and the attack roll is a 10 or higher.  If Mandarin was to roll a critical hit, he would get the +2 damage modifier from his special power and an additional +1 modifier for the critical hit.  This would give Mandarin the potential to smack someone for 6 clicks of damage.  Bring it on!

On click 6 Mandarin goes to a peak of 4 damage and back up to 18 on defense.  He can now use Phasing/Teleport, Energy Shield/Deflection and Probability Control.

Mandarin has Mandarin’s Minions, Martial Artist, Ruler, Scientist, and The Hand for keywords.  At just 136 points, find the room to add 7 points for The Hand Additional Team Ability (ATA).  This blocks lines of fire to Mandarin if he is adjacent to a wall or blocking terrain when it’s not your turn.  Maybe add a character with the Scientist keyword and Barrier to your team like ASM #001c Spider-Man, who has the Spider-Man Ally team ability.  This makes Spider-Man a wild card who can copy The Hand ATA.  Some cool stuff!

Thanks for reading and be sure to continue to check back as we continue looking at figures from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Invincible Iron Man set.  In case you missed it, be sure to check out ol’ “Shell Head” himself from our earlier Iron Man preview! Until the next time, Shape Change for the Win!!
