Greetings HeroClix Fans!
The subject of today’s Fellowship of the Ring HeroClix preview is a half-Elf who captured the heart of Aragorn and bravely rescued Frodo Baggins from Sauron’s Black Riders. We are pleased to present the enchanting Arwen!
Arwen begins play with an Improved Movement ability called Ride On, Asfaloth!, which allows her to ignore hindering terrain when she moves. She also has a trait called What’s This? A Ranger Caught Off His Guard?, which reads: “When you build your force, Arwen possesses the Fellowship keyword if your force also includes a character named Aragorn.”
Arwen also has an epic ability, I Call On the Loudwater!, named for her rescue of Frodo Baggins at Bruinen. When Arwen is given an epic action, she can use Smoke Cloud as a free action regardless of range and line of fire. However, the first Smoke Cloud token must be placed in any square on the edge of the map and she may place 1 additional hindering terrain marker per 100 points of the build total. After actions resolve, deal 1 penetrating damage to each opposing character occupying a square into which a marker was just placed.
The changes to the Powers and Abilities Card make Smoke Cloud an appealing power for Arwen. In addition to placing hindering terrain markers and damaging opposing characters who occupy a square in which a marker was placed, characters that occupy a Smoke Cloud marker modify their attack values by -1 (unless they can use Smoke Cloud or ignore hindering terrain for line of fire purposes).
As we move to Arwen’s dial, we see that she starts with four clicks of a special power called I’m the Faster Rider. This special power allows Arwen to use Plasticity and the Carry ability.
Defensively, she opens with Defend to share her 18 defense value with adjacent friendly characters. She then moves into a four-click run of Combat Reflexes before winding down her dial with three more clicks of Defend. On those last three clicks she also has Quake to deal with multiple adjacent opposing characters.
At the heart of Arwen’s dial is a long run of Exploit Weakness, which represents her sword Hadhafang.
As the youngest child of Elrond, Arwen possesses a trio of appropriate keywords: Elf, Ruler, and Warrior. Finally, Arwen is only 69 points, which leaves plenty of room on a force for other attackers and support characters.
