BioShock Infinite HeroClix: Team Building with the Commandant and Founder Soldier!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Welcome back as we take a look at a couple of figures from the upcoming BioShock Infinite HeroClix set. Let’s start with the Commandant!

005-Commandant

At only 50 points, the first thing we notice about the Commandant’s dial is a trait called Vox Can’t Hide in Cover Full of Holes! This trait allows both Commandant and adjacent friendly characters to ignore the effects of hindering terrain on line of fire. Commandant also has a special power on her first and last two clicks called We’ll Wipe Out These Ruffians Together!   This special power says that when she makes an attack roll, if either die has a 6, an adjacent friendly character that he shares a keyword with her may make a range attack against the same target as a free action, once her attack resolves.   Add in some Enhancement for most of her dial, and Commandant can add to the damage of adjacent friendly figures while her own 5 range will allow for some range attack ability.

A team full of Stealth busting figures without using a team ability could be a lot of fun.  As she has the Founders and Soldier keywords, and this will be important for her special power, let’s use Soldier to build our team.   The first figure we will add to this force is Founder Soldier.

001-Founder-Soldier

Founder Soldier also has the Founders and Soldier keywords, and comes in at 45 points.  He has a trait called Knock ‘Em Back, Knock ‘Em Down!  This trait allows Founder Soldier to make a close or range combat attack as a free action, if his first hits and is doubles.   If he is adjacent to the Commandant above, he will ignore hindering terrain for line of fire, and benefit from Enhancement, while sharing his own Enhancement for the first three clicks of his dial.  An opening click of Running Shot will help his mobility, while some end dial Flurry will ensure he goes down swinging, and allow more opportunity to use his trait.

We now have a starting point to build a Soldier theme team based on a couple of figures from the BioShock Infinite HeroClix set.  A potential downside to building a ranged attack-focused force is what to do when your opponent bring s the fight to you.  Adding Boromir fron the Lord of the Rings HeroClix set grants you two things: firstly he’s more close-combat oriented which adds some versatility to this team build (and allows him to run interference so your ranged pieces can re-position), and his Probability Control special power, Dark Premonitions, will help with those attack rolls.

Next we go to the Fellowship of the Ring HeroClix set and add the Elven Archer  to our force.  His trait, though very good when surrounded by fellow Elves, won’t come into play on this team.   What will be of particular value is the Archer’s special power, LEITHIO I PHILINN!, which allows him to use Enhancement, but he can choose to modify range by +1 instead of damage.    With three (see below) other sources of Enhancement on the team and his 8 range, Elven Archer will also be a long range threat.

Major Glenn Talbot from Marvel HeroClix: The Incredible Hulk adds more Enhancement to your team as well as the S.H.I.E.L.D. team ability, which allows you to further increase adjacent friendly characters’ range values by one.  As an added bonus, if you give Major Glen Talbot a power action, a friendly adjacent character can increase their damage value by an additional one! At only 33 points the Major is a great addition to this team build.

And the last piece we add to our Soldier theme team comes from Marvel HeroClix: Hammer of Thor, Captain America (72 points)His Deflection Trajectory special power that makes it so his line of fire is only blocked by walls and indoor blocking terrain on the front half of his dial makes him a threat, as long as he is within 8 range.  With his two targets, and when a force is built around him, this power can be devastating.  Position Major Glenn TalbotCommandant and Founder Soldier to best take advantage of their Enhancement (and the Major’s S.H.I.E.L.D. team ability!), and the Elven Archer can be placed so his LEITHIO I PHILINN! special power can further increase Captain America’s range.  And thanks to the Commandant’s trait, hindering terrain offers no protection from Captain America’s mighty shield.

This Soldier theme team adds up to 295 points. For more Probability Control, consider moving some things around and adding Rocket Raccoon from Hammer of Thor (Rocket Raccoon possesses Leap/Climb making him more mobile than Boromir).  If all the Enhancement on this force isn’t to your liking, consider using more figures with the S.H.I.E.L.D. or the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) team abilities (from the Halo HeroClix set).

Thanks for joining us today.  We hope you’ve enjoyed this sneak-peek into the upcoming BioShock Infinite HeroClix set as much as we, and hopefully these team building tips will inspire you to Soldier on in your next HeroClix match! Until next tim, keep your Clix off their K.O.’s!
