Batman: Gotham City Strategy Game The Penguin!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

While many of us may be recovering from Thanksgiving turkey we are pleased to present you all with a villain with an affinity for all sorts of fowl as well as known for foul deeds! Today’s preview is from none other than the upcoming Batman: Gotham City Strategy Game, The Penguin!

The Penguin has a trait called Criminal Mastermind that makes it so opposing characters within 4 squares can’t use Outwit.   The Penguin has a dial that represents a large quantity of umbrella weaponry he has utilizes in his career, as well as his own intellect.

The Penguin opens his dial being able to use his machine gun umbrella, represented by Energy Explosion, which he can use with his 5 range.  Energy Shield Deflection will make him harder to make range attacks against, and Outwit will allow him to deprive an opposing figure of a key power.   Should an opposing figure become adjacent to The Penguin, on his next couple of clicks he now has access to Blades/Claws/Fangs. 

At the end of his dial, The Penguin has a power set designed to get opposing figures away from him as he now can move a single figure away without an attack roll with Force Blast, or target multiple adjacent foes with a locked damage value of 2 using Quake. 

All of these elements make The Penguin a very playable character, but it is his second trait that makes him the most fun.    Called Penguin Automa-Bombs, this trait allows The Penguin to be given a power action when there are no friendly Penguin Automa-Bombs in play, and place one in a square adjacent to The Penguin.  

The Penguin Automa-Bomb is a bystander token as described on the back of this card.  Penguin Automa-Bomb has a trait called Set to Blow that says its combat values can’t be modified.   Penguin Automa-Bomb has a range value of 5, with a 10 attack and 0 damage.   Instead of a printed damage, it has a special power called Boom!!!! that allows Penguin Automa-Bomb to use Pulse Wave, with a locked damage value of 2 no matter how many figures are in range.  After the action resolves, Penguin Automa-Bomb is dealt 1 unavoidable damage.  “Boom!!!! ” indeed!

For 70 points, The Penguin brings the ability to share attack values with adjacent friendly figures that can also use the Batman Enemy team ability.   The Penguin can fit on a couple of theme teams with the Arkham Asylum and Gotham Underworld keywords.
