Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we continue our previews of the Marvel HeroClix: Avengers Movie set as we conclude our tour of duty with WWII’s greatest military unit, the Howling Commandos and check in with their newest addition, Captain America!

Captain America begins play getting right into the thick of things utilizing 3 clicks of Charge.  An opening click of Invulnerability provides protection from counter attack, followed up by 3 clicks of Toughness. Captain America also has three clicks of a special power called Howlers, Let’s Go! in his attack slot.  Howlers, Let’s Go!  allows Captain America to use Leadership normally, or it lets him remove up to 2 action tokens instead of 1 if both tokens are removed from adjacent friendly character(s) with the Howling Commandos keyword.

On the back half of his dial, in his movement slot, Captain America gets 3 clicks of a special power called I’ll Save You, No Matter What, that says if a friendly character of a lower point value took damage since your last turn, Captain America can move using Leap/Climb as a free action.  Close Combat Expert replaces his damage special power. And Captain America closes out his dial with Combat Reflexes on his last two clicks.

Captain America possess the Indomitable ability, allowing him to ignore pushing damage, and at 70 points Captain America will be the ideal leader for his expert squad as he possesses the Howling Commandos, Past, and Soldier keywords.  Captain America will be an asset to most forces he is played on, and since he comes in the Howling Commandos Team Pack he is sure to have friends to join up with right away!

From Herald to Annihilator!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

For today’s Marvel HeroClix: Galactic Guardians Annihilators Fast Forces pack preview, we soar through the cosmos with the best known of Galactus’ heralds, the Silver Surfer!

Silver Surfer can be played at either 200 points or 100 points. If played at 100 points, Silver Surfer begins his dial on click four. At either point level, Silver Surfer possesses a range of nine and the Power Cosmic team ability, which enables him to ignore pushing damage and prevents his powers from being countered.

Silver Surfer begins his dial with two clicks of Running Shot that are backed defensively by two clicks of Impervious. On his second click, he gains Energy Explosion. In Golden Age games, you can assign the Ambidextrous feat (available under the Print and Play link) to Silver Surfer for 18 points and gain two targets to use with Energy Explosion!

Silver Surfer changes his defensive and offensive strategies on his third click: Running Shot is replaced by Hypersonic Speed for one click and Impervious is replaced by Invulnerability for two clicks. On Silver Surfer’s fourth click, the being formerly known as Norrin Radd replaces Hypersonic Speed with two clicks of Phasing/Teleport!

Starting on his fifth click, Silver Surfer switches defensive tactics again. This time, his silver skin is represented by Toughness as his damage reducer of choice for four clicks. On click five, his ability to rearrange matter manifests as gains Penetrating/Psychic Blast to ignore damage-reducing powers on opposing characters.

Toward the end of the Surfer’s dial, he regains Running Shot for three clicks and Energy Explosion for one click. Penetrating/Psychic Blast makes another appearance on the Surfer’s second-to-last click. Finally, Silver Surfer regains the use of Phasing/Teleport on his last click. This allows the Surfer to break away automatically and then, as a limitles wellspring of power, recover with Regeneration!

With two playable point levels and a quartet of neat keywords (Annihilators, Cosmic, Defenders, and Herald), Silver Surfer makes a great addition to any team!

It’s Hulking Time!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we continue our previews of the Marvel HeroClix: Galactic Guardians set as continue to visit the original non-team of Defenders, and the strongest one there is, the Hulk!

The Hulk, like the rest of the Defenders, has a trait to help his team move around. Hulk Throw Defenders! allows characters possessing the Defenders keyword or team ability who begin an action adjacent to Hulk to modify their speed value by +3. If they choose to do so, they can’t use the Carry Ability and after actions resolve, give them an additional action token; if you can’t, deal them 1 unavoidable damage instead. Remember this trait, as it cool as it is, next week’s preview will really highlight it usefulness.

Hulk starts the game with the always potent combination of Charge and Super Strength, and along with his opening 11 attack and printed 4 damage, this will ensure that Hulk smash! Charge sticks around for Hulk’s first 3 clicks, while Super Strength is present for his entire dial. Protecting Hulk from the inevitable counter attack on his first 3 clicks is Invulnerability. After his first click, Hulk may drop to a printed 3 damage, but Exploit Weakness will make sure the damage sticks!

Mid-dial, Hulk switches tactics as he picks up 3 clicks of Leap/Climb to better position himself for more attacks, or to make sure his Defenders allies can utilize his trait. A run of 4 clicks of Toughness provides some protection to the Hulk. End-dial, Hulk switches back to one more click of Charge. Offensively, Hulk switches to 3 clicks of Close Combat Expert to close out his dial. In his defense slot on his last two clicks, Hulk has the chance to heal himself back up into his mid-dial with Regeneration.

Hulk also can AE from Bruce Banner #002 from the Marvel HeroClix: The Incredible Hulk set. At this point, Hulk starts with Charge and Super Strength to batter his foes, with a click of Toughness to help him take a hit. Super Strength and Close Combat Expert make sure he will do some damage for all 3 clicks, while his 2 end-dial clicks of Regeneration will make sure he can get back to his orange starting line.

For 124 points, this Hulk packs a wallop! He possesses the Avengers, Brute, and Defenders keywords and can be an asset to other force builds as well!

The Grimmest of the Warriors Three

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

For today’s Marvel HeroClix: Avengers Movie preview, we once again visit with the Warriors Three. However, this time we shine the spotlight on the grim and brooding warrior, Hogun!

Hogun comes in at 66 points and possesses the Asgardian, Warrior, and Warrior Three keywords. Speaking of the Warriors Three keyword, Hogun begins play with a trait, Warriors Three Together, which modifies his damage value by +1 if there are two or more friendly characters with the Warriors Three keyword within three squares.

A loyal defender of Asgard, Hogun begins his dial with three clicks of Charge to help him get into heat of battle. That’s backed by four clicks of Toughness which allow Hogun to withstand most retaliatory strikes. On Hogun’s middle clicks, he gains Quake to knock away opposing characters and show that he is the steadiest member of the Warriors Three!

On clicks two and three, Hogun’s inscrutable wisdom comes into play when he gains the use of Outwit. Hogun’s third click can be quite effective as he can use Outwit on an opponent, move with Charge, then attack with Quake!

On Hogun’s final two clicks, he drops Toughness in favor of Willpower to show his determination in battle and he also gains Close Combat Expert, which allows him dish out more damage in hand-to-hand fights!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we begin our previews for the Marvel HeroClix: Galactic Guardians Annihilators Fast Forces Pack by visiting with Richard Rider, the man called Nova!

Nova boasts clicks of Phasing/Teleport at the start and end of his dial to help him move into position for an attack or retreat and regroup. In between those clicks of Phasing/Teleport, Nova gains the ability to move and attack via Running Shot With a range of seven and two targets, Nova’s ranged attacks are no laughing matter, especially mid-way through his dial when Energy Explosion is his attack of choie!

Defensively, Nova begins with Invulnerability to represent his time bonded to the Nova Force. Mid-dial, his Nova Corp Uniform (Toughness) helps him shrug off damage. Finally, Super Senses at the end of Nova’s dial help him evade damage altogether!

Nova’s got a trick or two up his sleeves in his damage slot. He has Perplex at the end of his dial. Nova also has a special power that appears in the first three-quarters of his dial. This special power, Worldmind Surge, allows Nova to use Perplex to either target himself or characters that share any of his keywords. When he uses Perplex, he can modify attack values by +2 instead of +1!

At 125 points and with a number of useful keywords to aid with team building, Nova makes a great addition to any force!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we continue our previews of the Marvel HeroClix: Galactic Guardians set as journey to Atlantis to visit with its ruling prince, Namor!

Namor possesses the Flight Transporter ability, allowing him to treat characters and terrain as clear terrain for movement, use the Carry ability, and Hypersonic Speed. Namor possesses the Defenders team ability. Namor also possess a trait called Defenders Undersea, allowing characters possessing the Defenders keyword or team ability who begin an action adjacent to Namor to use the Swim ability that action.

Namor begins play with 6 clicks of Super Strength. Defensively, Namor has an opening run of 3 clicks of Invulnerability. Namor also has a special power called Imperius Rex on his opening two clicks, allowing Namor to use Leadership, with the added benefit that opposing characters subtract 1 from their Leadership rolls. After this special power is a click of Battle Fury.

Mid-dial, Namor switches to a run of four clicks of Toughness as his damage reducer of choice. Imperius Rex returns for two more clicks, followed by another click of Battle Furry. Late-dial, Namor ends his dial with two clicks of Flurry, as well as a click of Regeneration.

Namor possesses the Atlantis, Avengers, Defenders, Illuminati, Invaders, and Ruler keywords. Namor comes in at 120 points and will bring a sturdy brick to any force.

From Circus Strongman to Howling Commando!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we continue our previews of the Marvel HeroClix: Avengers Movie set by rejoining WWII’s greatest military unit, the Howling Commandoes and check in with Dum Dum Dugan!

Dum Dum Dugan begins play with Running Shot on his first two clicks. Toughness protects him from some return fire on these clicks. His 4 range may be short, but Dum Dum Dugan makes up for this by being able to utilize the Sharpshooter ability. This couples very well with his damage special power Shotgun! When Dum Dum Dugan makes a ranged combat attack against a single target, his damage value is replaced with 5 minus the number of squares to the target character and is locked.

On his middle click, Dum Dum Dugan has Combat Reflexes to make a counter attack harder to hit if he is based. Late-dial, Dum Dum Dugan switches tactics to support his teammates with two clicks of Enhancement. Willpower keeps Dum Dum Dugan more active without fear of pushing damage.

Dum Dum Dugan also possess a trait called We’ll Remember You, Cap allowing Dum Dum Dugan to increase his attack value by +1 if a friendly figure named Captain America was KO’d this game. This should be easy to build a team around as Dum Dum Dugan possess the Howling Commandos, Past, and Soldier keywords. At 60 points, Dum Dum Dugan will be an asset to most forces he is played on, and since he comes in the Howling Commandos Team Pack he is sure to have friends to join up with right away!

Dread Lord of the Dark Dimension!

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we turn the spotlight to one of the colossal figures found in the Marvel: Galactic Guardians set! Please welcome the ruler of the Dark Dimension and a bitter foe of Doctor Strange, the dreaded Dormammu!

The brother of Umar and uncle of Doctor Strange’s beloved Clea, Dormammu can be played at either 600 or 250 points. When used at the lower point value, Dormammu begins his dial on click 10. Dormammu possesses the Deity, Mystical, and Ruler keywords at his 250-point level. At 600 points, he also gains the Future keyword.

Dormammu hits the battle map with a trait, Lord of the Dark Dimension, which allows him to use Probability Control. To show that Dormammu has dominion over the Dark Dimension, the trait also allows friendly characters to ignore damage that is dealt by the Mystics team ability!

Drawing upon the Dark Dimension’s energies, Dormammu starts his dial with the potent combination of Running Shot and Penetrating/Psychic Blast to quickly engage his opponents and bypass any damage-reducing powers they may have. His 10 range ensures that he’ll reach most foes with ease! Defensively, Dormammu opens with Impervious, to show that he is a being of pure mystical energy, and a high defensive value of 19. He also has the Indomitable combat ability, which allows him to use Willpower. Once Dormammu is off his first click, he retains Running Shot and reveals his Faltine heritage when he chooses Pulse Wave over Penetrating/Psychic Blast as his method of attack. Defensively, Dormammu switches from Impervious to Invulnerability.

Starting with his second click, Dormammu picks up a special power in his damage slot, Empower a Minion! Once per game as a free action, Dormammu may choose another friendly character of 150 points or less. That character’s combat values are then modified by +1!

Beginning with his third click, Dormammu loses Running Shot in favor of a long run of Phasing/Teleport. He retains Invulnerability and the Empower a Minion special power but loses Pulse Wave. Instead, Dormammu gains a special power, Welcome to My Realm! With this power, Dormammu’s controller may roll a d6 after an opposing character within range is given a power action. If the die roll is a 5 or 6, the opposing character is dealt 1 unavoidable damage. In addition, Welcome to My Realm prevents Dormammu’s other powers from being countered!

Toward the middle of Dormammu’s dial, he switches back to Pulse Wave, then Penetrating/Psychic Blast, then Welcome to My Realm. Defensively, Dormammu drops Invulnerability in favor of Super Senses. He then gains two clicks of Regeneration. In his attack slot, he gains a short run of Outwit before picking up Exploit Weakness for two clicks.

With the exception of different combat values, the back half of Dormammu’s dial is identical to the front half.

Dormammu possesses the Mystics team ability and makes a formidable foe on his own at his 600-point incarnation. At his 250-point level, he leaves room for other friendly characters to join his force.

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we continue our previews of the Marvel HeroClix: Galactic Guardians set as we go into the Sanctum Sanctorum to check in with the Master of the Mystic Arts, the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Dr. Strange! But before we visit him in person, we must meet the Astral Dr. Strange.

Astral Dr. Strange is a 13 point figure with the Mystical keyword and 2 sets of powers and stats on his dial. Astral Dr. Strange has powers and traits that show off his intangible ghost form quite well. Both sides have the same two traits, Dr. Strange’s Animating Spirit and Intangible and Invisible. Dr. Strange’s Animating Spirit says that when Astral Dr. Strange is KO’d, roll a d6, on a roll of 1-3, give all friendly characters named Dr. Strange an action token. Intangible and Invisible says that Astral Dr. Strange does not require opponents to break away, does not block line of fire, cannot have damage transferred to it by Mastermind or be the target of Perplex, and may be given a move action as a free action once during your turn.

On side A, Astral Dr. Strange has Phasing/Teleport on all three clicks, showing his movement on the astral plane. Likewise, he has Incapacitate on all three clicks. Super Senses is on his opening click. On side B, Astral Dr. Strange also has Phasing/Teleport on all three clicks. On this side, his offensive slot is full of Smoke Cloud. Defensively, Astral Dr. Strange starts with Super Senses, and then goes into 2 clicks of Willpower.

Dr. Strange begins play with two traits.  Astral Form allows you to give Dr. Strange a power action to place a #014a or #014b Astral Dr. Strange from outside of the game in an adjacent square. His other trait is Defenders Portal, which allows characters possessing the Defenders keyword or team ability that begin an action adjacent to Dr. Strange to use Phasing/Teleport but halve their speed value that action.

In his Speed slot, Dr. Strange begins play with Phasing/Teleporting.   After this opening click, Dr. Strange gains his special power for 5 clicks, Concentrate on One Projection.   This special power allows Dr. Strange to be given a free action to choose an opposing character adjacent to a friendly Astral Dr. Strange. This turn, Dr. Strange can target that character regardless of range, squares, or line of fire when making a ranged combat attack or using Outwit or Perplex.  On his last two clicks, Dr. Strange switches back to Phasing/Teleport.

In his Attack slot, Dr. Strange brings 5 clicks of Penetrating/Psychic Blast, utilizing his 8 range or special power, followed by 2 clicks of Poison.  Defensively, Dr. Strange begins play with his strongest protective magic’s with 2 clicks of Impervious, followed by 2 clicks of Toughness.  Afterward, Dr. Strange tries to avoid damage all together with 2 clicks of Super Senses, and ends his dial with 2 clicks of Energy Shield Deflection.

The Damage slot of Dr. Strange is filled with an array of support powers including opening and closing clicks of Probability Control, Perplex on clicks 2, 5, and 6, and two mid-dial clicks of Outwit.  Dr. Strange possesses the Avengers, Defenders, Illuminati, Midnight Sons, and Mystical keywords, as well as the Defenders and Mystics team abilities. At 196 points, Dr. Strange will be a great corner stone to many build totals.

For today’s Marvel HeroClix: Avengers Movie preview, we travel again to Asgard and visit with the voluminous member of the Warriors Three, Volstagg!

Volstagg begins play with a trait, Warriors Three Together, which modifies his damage by +1 for two or more friendly characters with the Warriors Three keyword are within three squares!

As one of Thor’s closest comrades, Volstagg won’t hesitate to follow the thunder god into battle and begins with the ever-useful combination of Charge and Super Strength on the front half of his dial. Mid-dial, Volstagg loses Charge but retains Super Strength.

On the back end of Volstagg’s dial, his large girth is represented via Plasticity. Late-dial Quake allows Volstagg to knock back adjacent opposing characters on his own terms!

Defensively, Volstagg’s ill-fitting Asgardian armor (Invulnerability) initially allows him to absorb the mightiest of blows! Once Volstagg is off his top click, he gains a long run of Toughness to help him stay in the game.

Volstagg comes in at 67 points and makes a great addition to many forces.
