Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man – Mephisto Champion Figure

Greetings HeroClix Fans,

The Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set not only features the friends and foes of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, but also includes three HeroClix designed by past HeroClix Champions. Yesterday, we introduced you to Chameleon, designed by the 2014 World Champion. Today we have the figure designed by the 2015 HeroClix World Champion. Introducing Paris Gordon and his figure design of Mephisto!

Name: Paris Gordon

WES ID: mourir

Location: Houston, TX

Favorite Local Venues: Fat Ogre Games & Comics, Bedrock City, Swords & Superheroes, 8th Dimension Comics and Games

What first brought you to the world of HeroClix?
My dad brought home some boosters when the game first came out, and we’ve been collecting and playing ever since.

How long have you been playing HeroClix?
I’ve been casually playing at home and collecting since the first set, Infinity Challenge. I’ve been going to tournaments and playing competitively since Giant Sized X-Men.

How often and where do you play HeroClix?
I play pretty often with my teammates at home, especially my dad. For tournaments, I go to at least one OP event per month and try to attend some bigger tournaments about once a month. Locally, I mainly play at Bedrock City Comics and Fat Ogre Games and Comics.

What inspired you to choose the character you designed?
I’ve always been a fan of Mephisto in the comics, and for such a cool, powerful, and important character in the Marvel Universe, I felt like he didn’t have enough representation in HeroClix. There have only been two versions previously, and while they were both cool in their own ways, I didn’t feel that either figure was depictive of the way I would imagine a Mephisto figure.Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man - Mephisto Champion Figure

What were the challenges or considerations you faced while conceptualizing your dial design?
I wanted to show Mephisto manipulating things from the background, while also showcasing his power. Balancing this was probably the hardest challenge, but also the most fun part.

Please walk us through your dial design.
Like I said, I wanted to showcase both his background manipulations and his overwhelming power. To do this I gave him the Unseen Manipulator power and Perplex on the opening two clicks. He can also be played with just these clicks, as there are times where Mephisto gets his feet wet, but leaves before ever taking things into his own matters. However, playing him at full shows Mephisto getting tired of playing games and taking things into his own hands (with the stop click showing how he chose to unleash his power). Of course, he also has the contracts (at either dial) he can make with any character…for a price. He has power over others (-1 defense) and will collect his debt (healing).

Any parting thoughts?
I’m really happy with the way Mephisto turned out. I’m glad I got this opportunity and enjoyed working with WizKids. Hopefully I get another chance to do so! Shout out to everyone in Team Ragnarok for helping me play and improve, and being all around awesome people!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man – Chameleon Champion Figure

Greetings HeroClix Fans,

The Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set features the Spider-Man Family, Sinister Syndicate and more friends and foes of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Also included in the upcoming set are three HeroClix designed by HeroClix Champions. To introduce these new figures, we spoke with the champion designers about how they came up with their HeroClix. First up is Chameleon, designed by the 2014 World Champion, Patrick Yapjoco.

Name: Patrick Yapjoco

WES ID: Spawn

Location: Orange, CA

How long have you played: 8+ years

Favorite local venues: Majestix (Orange, CA), Uncle Red’s Pizza (Bellflower, CA), The Realm Games and Comics (Brea, CA)

What first brought you to the world of HeroClix?

I used to collect action figures and comics, and play other table top games. When I saw this at my local comic shop, I was intrigued.  The rest is history.

How long have you been playing HeroClix?

I’ve played since Infinity Challenge, but I took a break from Ultimates to Arkham Asylum.  When Hammer of Thor was released, I was hooked again.

How often and where do you play HeroClix?

I play almost every day if I can, since I run a Heroclix-only store, Majestix.  It’s in Orange, California and we are one of two stores that I know are dedicated purely to this great game.

What is your favorite thing about HeroClix?

From a gaming aspect, I love the team-building and the synergies that can be discovered while playing the game.  The designers are always pushing the envelope on new game elements and rules, which makes for a dynamic and FUN game.  The other aspect I love is the community.  Being part of many other gaming communities, I can definitely say that the HeroClix community is BY FAR, the best gaming community I have been a part of.

What inspired you to choose the character you designed?

I am first and foremost a Spider-Man guy.  I love his rogues gallery, especially the Sinister Six storylines.  Chameleon was the first Spider-villain, too! We haven’t had a Chameleon in 6-7 years and it’s about time the Master of Disguises gets his spotlight again!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man - Chameleon Champion Figure

What were the challenges or considerations you faced while conceptualizing your dial design?

The hardest part was keeping his point value low enough so he didn’t take up a lot of space on a team, since he is mainly a background guy doing undercover work.  My initial design came back at well over 100 points (I’m greedy)!

Please walk us through your dial design.

I wanted to showcase Chameleon’s mastery of the art of disguises.  I wanted to see what we could do with it, and the Stan Lee figure gave me inspiration on how it could be done.  I also wanted him to be the definitive Shapechange guy, which is why he has the trait that prevents others from using Shapechange or being replaced. He is an integral part of the Sinister Syndicate, so he needed that team ability, but since he could be anyone, he could be a part of any team, too.  So, we decided that making him a wild card would suit both needs. Being a Spy, he should have some influence/knowledge, which is where Perplex and Outwit come in.  Lastly, he is tough to track down due to his disguises, which is why he has Stealth, Shapechange, and Super Senses. On his last click, he has Regeneration, which is meant to show he is trying to create a new disguise.

Any parting thoughts?

It was a fun process designing this figure.  Chameleon went through a couple of different iterations, but I am happy with the outcome.  Scott was very open and helpful in what I wanted to accomplish with this figure and I am glad that he is 70pts, as it will give teams more flexibility in team-building.  I hope everyone enjoys the Disguise trait and I am excited to see which Disguises Chameleon will be using.  Oh, and remember, when in doubt, Perplex the Attack (Chameleon can help with that)!

That’s all for today HeroClix fans. Tune in tomorrow to learn about another of the champion figures included in the Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set.

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man- Power Man & Iron Fist

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

For today’s Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man preview, we look at a pair of Heroes for Hire whose personalities and fighting styles differ in many ways, but also complement one another.  Please welcome Luke Cage and Daniel Rand, better known as Power Man & Iron Fist!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man- Power Man & Iron Fist

As we mentioned, Power Man & Iron Fist have different fighting styles, with Power Man being the streetwise brawler and Iron Fist as the disciplined martial artist.  Yet somehow our heroes manage to work together effectively to overcome the odds.  To capture this harmonious clash of styles, Power Man & Iron Fist come into play with a trait called Martial Arts or Street Smarts? which lets you change their dial to suit your current needs.  The first six clicks of Power Man & Iron Fist’s dial have red click numbers to represent Iron Fist; the last six clicks have blue numbers and represent Power Man.  At the beginning of your turn, you may turn Power Man & Iron Fist’s dial to the same click number of the other color.  Additionally, when Power Man & Iron Fist is on a red click number, they can use Combat Reflexes; when they’re on a blue click number, they can use Super Strength.

Moving beyond the Martial Arts or Street Smarts? trait, Power Man & Iron Fist’s dial features power sets that accurately capture their fighting styles.  Iron Fist starts his side of the dial with Sidestep, Super Senses and Exploit Weakness and ends with Flurry and Precision Strike, while  Power Man begins with Charge, Quake and Invulnerability and ends with Toughness and Close Combat ExpertPower Man & Iron Fist have the standard speed, attack and damage combat symbols, along with the Indomitable defense symbol to let them ignore pushing damage.

Power Man & Iron Fist has a point value of 50, which leaves you plenty of room to include teammates.  For themed team play, Power Man & Iron Fist has the Avengers, Heroes for Hire and Marvel Knights keywords to help you find just the right teammates.  As close combatants, Power Man & Iron Fist would benefit from having teammates on their force that can shoot.  Characters that can use the Carry ability would also be a boon to Power Man & Iron Fist as they can transport the pair around the battle map.

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man- Morlun

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

It’s time for another HeroClix preview from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set!  The terror of the Ancients rains havoc down on the Spider-Verse!  Morlun has returned, and he’s hungry indeed.  Weighing in at 200 pts, The Devourer of Spider-Totems is an intimidating force to behold on the map!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man- Morlun

Starting with traits, we have Draining Your Life… which, as a vampire, starts Morlun on click #4 of his dial. It also allows him to place the Slash marker on a target that he damages with a close attack.  The Slash token then deals 1 penetrating damage when the attached character is given an action token and is removed when they heal or clear their action tokens.  His second trait …To Feed Mine, grants him a very tasty Steal Energy upgrade.  Not only does it follow the standard rules for Steal Energy, it also allows him to heal 2 clicks when he damages a character that has the Animal or Spider-Man Family keywords.  On top of that, it also allows Morlun to heal when a character is damaged by his Slash marker, letting him to heal past hit starting click.  Yikes!

Now onto the main dial, he starts off on click #4 with Charge, Super Strength, Impervious and Empower, allowing him to get where he needs to be and dish out damage rather quickly with a printed damage of 4 and potentially more with an object using Super Strength.  Having Indomitable helps greatly with the set up.  Going further down the dial, we see that he ends up with Invulnerability and Exploit Weakness for a few clicks with the movement special Appearing Anywhere in the Multiverse the Totems Are.  This gives him the use of Phasing/Teleport and Sidestep.  You may also give Morlun a free action and place him adjacent to an opposing character within 8 squares if they have the Animal or Spider-Man Family keywords, really setting them up for a world of hurt.  When things are looking bad, he ends up with Stealth and the classic healing power Regeneration to try to get him back into fighting form.

On the flip side, if the tides are in his favor, look out!  Once he heals past that starting line, Morlun gets scary fast.  At full dial, the monster is free with Hypersonic Speed, Precision Strike, Invincible and a whopping 6 printed damage.  Having a total of 10 clicks ensures your opponent will have a long, hard fight to drop this beast to the nether realms for good.

Having a powerhouse that can sustain itself with multiple ways to heal and deal damage is a rare blessing.  Using the right supporting cast can turn Morlun into a living nightmare for your opponent and send a chill up their spine. With his long list of generic keywords:  Animal, Brute, Cosmic, Monster, and Mystical, building a good team should be pretty easy.

That’s all for today, HeroClix fans! Stay tuned as we continue to preview more of Spider-Man’s allies and villains from the Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man!  And look to the WizKids Information Network (WIN) to find tournaments and Release Day events near you!

Until next time, keep your dice on the table!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man – Stilt-Man

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

It’s time for another HeroClix preview, from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man Set! Today, we have a character that has always been a ‘tall order’ for Spider-Man and his allies to battle with, Stilt-Man!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man - Stilt-Man

After stealing designs for a hydraulic ram system from his employer, engineer Wilbur Day began his criminal career facing the likes of Spider-Man and Daredevil as Stilt-Man.

Starting at 50 points, Stilt-Man has a short dial but he has a lot of utility.  His trait Extendable Legs lets you add physical Leg Extensions to him!  He starts the game with a Leg Extension on his sculpt and, for 5 points each, you can add more.  If he has at least 2 Leg Extensions, he gains the Giant symbol and if he has 4 or more, he has the Colossal symbol.  These additional Leg Extensions are useful because they trigger his two other abilities.  His trait I Know This May Sound Funny… But I Can’t Feel My Legs, allows him to avoid taking damage by instead removing a Leg Extension and rolling a die that cannot be re-rolled. On a 4-6, he takes no damage, but on a 1-3 roll, Stilt-Man must take one unavoidable damage. He also has a Colossal Retaliation special damage power that we have seen before in HeroClix that he can use while he has 4 or more Leg Extensions. Colossal Retaliation:  Hydraulic Leg Smash, gives him the ability to be placed on the map and make a close attack against any character that attacked him or did damage to a friendly character on the opponent’s previous turn as a free action.  Dial-wise, he has respectable and consistent combat values for his point cost, including 3 damage for his whole dial.  He has Force Blast, Quake, and Toughness on all of his clicks which can make use of his Giant Reach when he has the Giant or Colossal symbols.  He also has the Sinister Syndicate team ability allowing him to share his attack value with certain friendly characters, or perhaps borrow a higher value from them.

Stilt-Man has been known to team up with other villains to further their nefarious criminal schemes. He even worked with the government to earn his redemption during the Civil War between earth’s heroes, though the Punisher ensured that didn’t last too long.  His history in the comics also gives him the Pro-Registration, Sinister Syndicate, and Armor keywords.

Each Stilt-Man figure also comes with two sets of Leg Extensions!  Additional Leg Extensions can be added to him by collecting more Stilt-Man figures, making it convenient that he is a common rarity piece.

That’s all for today, HeroClix fans! Stay tuned as we continue to preview more of Spider-Man’s allies and villains from Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man!

Until next time, just roll with the knock back.

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man – Hydro-Man

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

The subject of today’s Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man preview has left our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man all washed up on several occasions, but he hasn’t been seen in HeroClix form since the Marvel HeroClix: Sinister set!  Get out your wetsuits as Hydro-Man flows back into town!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man - Hydro-Man

Hydro-Man is a Rare Prime HeroClix that can be added to your force by paying either 60 or 100 points.  By using his 60-point version, he starts the game on click 3.  Hydro-Man has the Frightful Four, Masters of Evil and Sinister Syndicate keywords as options if you wish to include him on a themed team.  Hydro-Man also has the Masters of Evil and Sinister Syndicate printed team abilities, meaning you can still take actions even when he already has two action tokens (but he’ll be dealt one unavoidable damage after the action resolves) and he can share his unmodified attack value with another teammate who also has the Sinister Syndicate team ability.  Hydro-Man has the standard attack, defense, and damage combat symbols, and the Swimmer speed symbol to ignore water terrain when he moves.  Hydro-Man is built for close attacks and has several standard powers including Charge, Quake, and Close Combat Expert, reflecting his combat style.

To represent Hydro-Man’s water-based powers, he hits the battlefield with three traits.  The first trait, Drown You on Dry Land, lets you place the Submerged marker (the Water ClixFX Base he comes with!) on an adjacent opposing character.  A character with the Submerged marker attached can’t be placed, must break away before moving, and can’t break away automatically.  Additionally, characters who fail to break away are dealt 1 penetrating damage.  The next trait, Water Sustains Me, allows Hydro-Man to take a free action to place a water terrain marker within 6 squares and line of fire -or- remove a water terrain marker from a square he occupies and heal him 1 click.  Hydro-Man’s third trait, Absorbing Excess Water,  boosts his damage value by +1 and giving him the Giant damage symbol when he occupies a square of water! Additionally, if Hydro-Man is also adjacent to 8 squares of water terrain, he instead gains the Colossal damage symbol, and increases his damage value by +2.  You’ll definitely want to choose a map with ample amounts of water terrain to gain the bonuses from Absorbing Excess Water!

Moving past Hydro-Man’s traits, he starts his dial with a special power called Water Flows Everywhere that represents his ability to travel just about anywhere he pleases.  Water Flows Everywhere lets Hydro-Man use Sidestep and Improved Movement to ignore elevated, hindering, and blocking terrain, as well as characters when he moves. He rounds out his dial with some great standard powers including Impervious, Barrier, Super Senses, Shape Change, and Close Combat Expert.

Hydro-Man has point values that should allow you to add other attackers and support characters on your force, preferably with some shared keywords to make a themed team to increase your chances of picking a water map!  He has plenty of synergy between his traits to place more water terrain to heal himself or increase his combat values, and get opposing characters stuck near him. Despite his lack of a printed range, he can hurt enemy characters that are out of reach by using Giant Reach to attack characters 2 or 3 squares away if he can increase his size with Absorbing Excess Water.  Hydro-Man can then tie down enemies with the Submerged marker, thanks to Drown You on Dry Land.

Thanks for reading!  Join us again as we reveal more exciting characters and highlight strategies and team builds from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man – Venom & Anti-Venom

Greetings, HeroClix fans! Today, we’re looking at a couple of pieces from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set – the two sides of Eddie Brock, Venom and Anti-Venom!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man - Venom

Up first is Venom, the Indomitable villainous iteration of Eddie Brock. At 125 points, he can be played on Sinister Syndicate, Brute, Monster, and Reporter themed teams, and has the Sinister Syndicate team ability. Venom has two traits, Alien Symbiote and Mmmm… Tasty. Alien Symbiote, is a shared trait for lots of Symbiote characters in this set, which gives him both Plasticity and Shape Change, and he can automatically break away. His second trait Mmmm… Tasty allows him to heal 1 click when an opposing character takes 3 or more damage from one of Venom’s attacks! This power works well with all of the Exploit Weakness and Blades/Claws/Fangs he has on his dial.

His special defense power, called You Can’t Spell Team Without “E-A-T”. This power grants Venom the use of both Defend and Toughness. Additionally, at the beginning of your turn, you may deal an adjacent friendly character 1 unavoidable damage to heal Venom of 1 click. He also has some useful standard powers, including Charge, Invulnerability, and Toughness.

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man - Anti-Venom

Anti-Venom is the uncommon prime figure in the set, and comes in at 100 points. He has two traits, Alien Symbiote which is the shared trait identical to Venoms and another trait called I Am the Cure. I Am the Cure allows you to give Anti-Venom a free action to counter a different power on each opposing character within 2 squares and line of fire until your next turn. While Anti-Venom also has access to a ton of standard powers including Charge, Sidestep, Stealth, Blades/Claws/Fangs, Super Senses, Toughness, Regeneration, Exploit Weakness, and Support.

Both Venom and Anti-Venom bring different strengths to the table, and different capabilities that fill multiple roles on a team. Be sure to experiment with each to find a version of Mr. Brock that fits your needs. But that’s all for today, ‘Clix fans! Drop by for more exciting previews from the Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set! Until then, don’t be afraid to push!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man- Speed Demon & Boomerang

Greetings, HeroClix fans! Welcome to another exciting preview from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set! Today, we are looking at two members of the Superior Foes team from the Superior Foes of Spider-Man comic series, Speed Demon and Boomerang!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man - Speed Demon

Up first we have Speed Demon, a Speedster who’s been a member of the Sinister Syndicate, as well as part of the Thunderbolts! Coming in at 80 points, Speed Demon possesses a trait shared by all characters on the Superior Foes team, called Superior to the Other Guys! Once per turn for all characters using the trait, when a character uses the Sinister Syndicate team ability to replace their attack value with Speed Demon’s, that character can also use Probability Control during that attack! Speed Demon also comes with a Clix FX base to use with his second trait, Speed Shadow! Speed Shadow allows him to place the Speed Shadow marker in a square he moves through during an action. Then, when Speed Demon attempts to make a close combat attack, he treats characters adjacent to the Speed Shadow marker as adjacent to him – which goes well with his full dial of Hypersonic Speed and high speed value!

Moving on to the other powers in his dial, Speed Demon has two special powers. His attack special power called Punch You Before You Know It! appears on the last three clicks of his dial, and allows Speed Demon to use of Hypersonic Speed. When he does, he can use Flurry as a free action instead of making a close attack for that action! Speed Demon’s special defense power on his first three clicks of his dial is called I Got Super-Speed, Baby! which gives him Combat Reflexes and, if he moved at all during your last turn, he can also use Energy Shield/Deflection. Wrapping up, he has Indomitable for Willpower to keep him moving as well as Super Senses, and Probability Control toward the end of his dial.

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man - Boomerang

The second member of the Superior Foes we’re previewing today is the self-appointed leader of this version of the Sinister Syndicate, Boomerang! A former professional baseball player, as well as a member of the Masters of Evil and Thunderbolts, Boomerang comes to this team of foes to make one last big score for himself. And, uh…sure…for the rest of the team as well (he promises he won’t betray you!). He possesses both the Sinister Syndicate and Masters of Evil team abilities, and can be played at 110 points for 6 clicks of life, or scaled back a bit at 75 points with 4 clicks of life. To start, like the other members of his team, Boomerang has the Superior to the Other Guys trait. Like Speed Demon, this trait can be used when sharing attack values with the Sinister Syndicate Team Ability, but with a different twist. When taking Boomerang’s attack value, that character can also use Precision Strike during that attack!

Boomerang also has two special powers on his dial. His defense special power called Mid-Air Boomerang Deflection allows him to use his boomerangs to distract opponents from hitting him! This power lets Boomerang use Energy Shield/Deflection, and if he would be hit by a ranged attack while he has no action tokens, you may give him an action token to immediately use Super Senses! His damage special power called Got My Own Gang Now…and They Sorta Listen to Me lets Boomerang use Leadership. However, if he does so and fails, you may give an action token to an adjacent friendly character to remove an action token from him instead! Talk about a team player!

For combat symbols and abilities, Boomerang has a 6 range with two bolts, Improved Targeting – Ignores Characters, and the Flight Ability (thanks to his awesome new Jet Boots!). But that’s not all – Boomerang has a plethora of standard powers on his dial, including Running Shot, Sidestep, Stealth, Energy Explosion, Precision Strike, Toughness, Ranged Combat Expert, and Outwit.

Alas, that’s it for today’s previews – be sure to stop by next time for more exciting previews from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set! Until next time, be Superior to the Other Guys!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man – Carnage

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

It’s time for to kick off preview for the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man.  This 5-figure booster set will be releasing this August but Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man Pre-release Events kick off at the end of July. Today let’s take a look at a popular Spider-Man villain that has plagued New York and it’s heroes with his psychotic killing sprees, Carnage!

Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man - Carnage

The offspring of Venom’s Alien Symbiote and a product of the twisted mind of Cletus Kasady, Eddie Brock’s serial killer cellmate at Ryker’s Island prison, Carnage has no regard for life and kills for the fun of it.  He has an especially reserved hatred for Spider-Man and his ‘daddy’ Venom.

At 100 points Carnage is a close combat whirlwind of damage dealing mayhem.  To get around the map, he has Improved Movement:  Ignores Elevated.  He shares the same trait that all the Symbiote wearing characters have in the Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set,  Alien Symbiote. This trait lets him use Plasticity and Shape Change, and also allows him to automatically break away.  His Sadistic Slaughter trait gives Carnage some unique action economy and healing features.  When he damages an opposing character of lower points with an attack, you do not place any action tokens on him for the action and, when he KO’s a character, he heals 1 click, or 2 clicks if they were lower points than him.  With his dial and powers, there are good chances you’ll benefit from both scenarios!

Carnage heads into the fight with Charge, a full dial of Blades/Claws/Fangs, and Combat Reflexes.  Mid-dial he gets even more deadly with Flurry and a bump in his defense value with  Toughness.  When the fighting gets him down near KO, he goes back to Charge and Combat Reflexes, but also adds Exploit Weakness to make even the toughest of heroes his victim.  For keywords, this Monster heads up his own storyline, Maximum Carnage.

That’s all for today, HeroClix fans! Stay tuned as we continue to preview more of Spider-Man’s allies and villains from the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Superior Foes of Spider-Man set!  Be sure to check the WizKids Info Network (WIN) to find Pre-Release and Release Day events near you!

Marvel HeroClix: Civil War Storyline OP- Young Avengers Team

Greetings, HeroClix fans, and welcome to another team building study for the Marvel HeroClix: Civil War Storyline OP Event! Today, we’re switching gears a bit to the Anti-Registration side of things, and looking at three heroes of the future from the Young Avengers!

Marvel HeroClix: Civil War Storyline OP - Young Avengers - Hulkling

Our first member of the team is part Kree, part Skrull, and 100% Avenger – Hulkling! An indomitable 90-point piece, Hulkling  is a vicious attacker with a wide array of powers and abilities that really help him shine. He starts with two traits, the first of which is called Defend Billy, No Matter What. This trait states that adjacent friendly characters named Wiccan can use Mastermind, but only to transfer damage to Hulkling. His second trait, called Alien Physiology, allows Hulkling to use Shape Change. Additionally, adjacent friendly characters with the Young Avengers keyword modify their defense values by +1! Hulkling has a tremendous mix of standard powers throughout his dial, including Charge, Sidestep, Flurry, Super Strength, Blades/Claws/Fangs, Invulnerability, Toughness, Regeneration, Close Combat Expert, and Empower. He also has a special power called Grow Wings and Get Out on his final 3 clicks of movement that grants Hulkling the Flier combat symbol, as well as Improved Movement – Ignores Characters!

Marvel HeroClix: Civil War Storyline OP - Young Avengers - Wiccan

Of course, inseparable from Hulkling is his loving boyfriend, Wiccan. A 90-point piece with a range of five squares, Wiccan is designed to support, transport, and assist his fellow Young Avengers in any way possible. Starting with his trait Teleporting the Young Avengers, we see that Wiccan can use the Carry ability – and, when he does, he may carry up to five characters if they all have the Young Avengers keyword! He possesses only three standard powers – Phasing/Teleport, Energy Shield/Deflection, and Probability Control – but he makes up for that with three special powers. The first, appearing on his first three clicks of attack is called Mystical Tutelage, which allows Wiccan the ability to use the Mystics team ability! His second, appearing on his final three clicks of defense, is called Defensive Spells, allowing Wiccan the option to use Barrier, Energy Shield/Deflection, and Toughness. Finally, on his first two clicks of damage, Any Spell You Need grants Wiccan the ability to use Outwit, Perplex, Probability Control, and Support!

Marvel HeroClix: Civil War Storyline OP - Young Avengers - Stature

Lastly, we have the powerhouse of the Young Avengers team, the daughter of the Ant-Man, Stature! An 80-point piece with 8 clicks of life, Stature is your team’s front line attacker, ready to charge in and mix it up! To begin, Stature has two traits – the first is called Pushing Myself Larger, which states that, at the beginning of your turn, you may have Stature gain the Colossal combat symbol, modifying her attack value by +1 this turn. However, if you do, at the end of your turn you’ll need to deal her 1 unavoidable damage. Additionally, she has a second trait called I’ve Decided to Change Sides. This trait says that at the beginning of the game, choose either Anti-Registration or Pro-Registration. Then, once per game, at the beginning of your turn, you may choose again – Stature modifies her attack value by +1 when attacking opposing characters with the most recently chosen keyword! She also has a solid mix of standard powers, including Charge, Plasticity, Super Strength, Toughness, Willpower, Barrier, and Close Combat Expert!

The Young Avengers were the next line of heroes for the Marvel Universe and we feel we’ve represented the team well by grouping these characters together. How about you?
