DC HeroClix: The Joker’s Wild!- Court of Owls

Greetings, HeroClix fans! Welcome to a look into the seedy underbelly of the DC Universe as we take a look at two pieces the upcoming DC HeroClix: The Joker’s Wild! set! Today, we’re exploring the villainous group known as the Court of Owls, with the Court of Owls Initiates and Talon!

DC HeroClix: The Joker's Wild!- Court of Owls Initiate

Our first figures are the 10-point Court of Owls Initiates, 3 click pieces that serve as damage soaks for pieces with Mastermind or other damage transferal traits or powers. Their trait, Raise the Dead, states that when damage is transferred to the Court of Owls Initiate, it’s reduced by 1. They also possess the standard powers Stealth and Exploit Weakness. Both the 005a and 005b versions of the character have identical stats and power layouts, and are equally effective at helping fill out a Court of Owls or Gotham City team, or to provide swarm capabilities for your squad.

Our next piece is Talon, a 120-point figure who has a range of 5 squares with 2 targets. He possesses a trait called Assassin of the Court, which allows him the use of both Sidestep and Stealth. He can also use Mastermind, but only to transfer damage to characters with the Court of Owls keyword. He also possesses a special power on the final two clicks of defense on his six-click dial called Undead and Undying, which allows Talon to use both Combat Reflexes and Regeneration. When Talon does use Regeneration, instead of subtracting 2 from the roll, you will instead subtract the number of action tokens assigned to him!

Talon also possesses a number of strong standard powers, such as Running Shot, Charge, Precision Strike, Blades/Claws/Fangs, Toughness, Combat Reflexes, Shape Change, Exploit Weakness, and Outwit. Coupled with his Improved Movement – Ignores Hindering Terrain and Ignores Elevated Terrain, Talon is a mobility specialist, and can move and attack with little hindrance.

That’s it for today, HeroClix fans! Be sure to check in next time as we keep exploring the insanity that is DC HeroClix: The Joker’s Wild! Until next time, don’t be afraid to push!

DC HeroClix: The Joker’s Wild! – The Atom & The Flash

Greetings, HeroClix fans! Welcome to another exciting preview from the upcoming DC HeroClix: The Joker’s Wild! set! Today, we blast into the Golden Age of comics– all the way back to All-Star Comics #3 published in 1940– to look at a fast-moving and hard-hitting pair of founding members of the heroic sub-theme in this set… the Justice Society of America or JSA for short.

DC HeroClix: The Joker's Wild- The Atom JSA

Speaking of short, our first hero Al Pratt (aka The Atom) may be small in stature, but makes up for it with his incredible strength and fighting skills!   The proverbial 98-pound weakling studying at Calvin College, Al Pratt was trained by none other than boxing champ Joe Morgan.  The Atom may only be 25 points, but he is no light-weight!  Sidestep gets him into the fight, Combat Reflexes helps him to avoid incoming punches… before Al lays them out with his Close Combat Expert which can give him up to a whopping 5 damage on his top click!

The Atom also features a shared trait that will be seen on all the founding JSA members in the set called A Simpler Time.  With this trait, when another friendly character with the JSA team ability uses it to share the defense value from The Atom, they will also receive a bonus of +1 to their defense if they are being targeted by a close attack.

DC HeroClix: The Joker's Wild- The Flash JSA

Next up, we look at the speedster of the team— The Flash!  Born in Keystone City, Jay Garrick was a Scientist who worked with hard water. During one such experiment, Jay was struck by lightning, granting him the speed of Mercury, allowing him to become The Flash! At 35 points, The Flash possesses two standard powers— Hypersonic Speed and Super Senses— with impressive speed and defense values to keep him out of danger and solid attack values to be able to stick those hit-and-run attacks.

The Flash’s A Simpler Time trait allows his JSA teammates to use Super Senses for an attack if they share his defense value, however they only succeed on a result of a 6.

With the low point values of the Golden Age line-up of the Justice Society of America, players will be able to field an impressive 9-figure JSA team!  Keep an eye out for more awesome previews from DC HeroClix: The Joker’s Wild! including more denizens of Gotham City, more JSA members and figures from our other heroic sub-themes—The Outsiders!

DC HeroClix: The Joker’s Wild! – Harley Quinn & The Joker

Greetings HeroClix Fans!

Today we are kicking off previews of the upcoming DC Comics HeroClix: The Joker’s Wild! set by catching up with a dastardly duo that has taken the term “love-hate relationship” to new lows.  On the loose once again from Arkham Asylum, make way for former psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Quinzel (aka Harley Quinn) and her psychopathic puddin’, The Joker!

DC HeroClix: The Joker's Wild! - Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn can be added to your force by paying 35 points. With that low cost, comes a short-yet-effective dial.  As one of Batman’s foes, Harley Quinn has the Batman Enemy team ability which allows her to replace her attack value with that of a friendly character using the same team ability.  She also has a trait called This Is How I Deal With The Bat, which boosts a teammate’s attack value by +1 for a close attack when that teammate uses the Batman Enemy team ability to replace its attack value with Harley’s.

At 35 points and with bit of a short dial, Harley Quinn will likely act as a nuisance on your force.  Early on, Harley Quinn should share her 10 attack value with teammates that also have the Batman Enemy team ability.  If trouble comes her way, she has Shape Change and Super Senses to help her avoid and evade attacks, respectively.  Speaking of attacks, Harley Quinn has a special power in her attack slot called Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Stab which lets her use Incapacitate and Poison.  To make good use of her ability to use Incapacitate, Harley can shoot two targets up to five squares away.  The rest of her dial is suited appropriately, with Sidestep, Stealth, and Close Combat Expert rounding out her standard powers.

DC HeroClix: The Joker's Wild! - The Joker

On his own or paired with Harley Quinn, The Joker is capable of causing chaos wherever he is on a HeroClix map.  The Joker has a point value of 50 and brings his own variation of the This Is How I Deal With The Bat trait found on numerous characters in the set.  Instead of giving a +1 to the attack value of a teammate using the Batman Enemy team ability, The Joker’s version of This Is How I Deal With The Bat lets that teammate reroll the attack roll.  The Joker’s attack values never dip below 10, making him an ideal candidate for teammates with the Batman Enemy team ability that need some help.

The Joker’s dial is a click longer than Harley Quinn’s and his lack of a printed range means he’s best used for close attacks.  However, The Joker has a special power in his attack slot that lets him get around his lack of range.  His special power, C’mon Bats… It’s The Old Squirting Flower Gag, lets The Joker make a close attack against a single opponent within three squares and the line of fire.  If the attack hits, that character is dealt one penetrating damage instead of normal damage.  The Joker has Sidestep and Super Senses on each of his clicks, allowing him to duck and dodge attacks as necessary.  Perplex and Outwit fill out the rest of The Joker’s standard powers.

Both Harley Quinn and The Joker have the Arkham Asylum and Gotham City Underworld keywords for themed team play.  Harley Quinn also has the Gotham City Sirens keyword as an additional option.  For less than 100 points, Harley Quinn and The Joker leave plenty of room on a force for other attackers and support characters.
